Today’s port is Aomori, located at the tip of the main island. The city is surrounded by snow capped mountains and is a major apple and rice growing region and experiences approx 6 months of winter. In summer, August, it is known for its Nebuta festival of floats, lanterns, drumming and music. Today I visited the nearby town of Hirosaki and its gardens , castle and Neputa Village and art museum of its festival floats. The cherry blossoms are still in bud and are expected to bloom in only 2 days so just missed it. The cities are preparing for their spring festivals to start this weekend.

Today we visited the port city of Sakata. Over centuries it was made prosperous as a trading port with lots of rice and fresh produce grown in the area. The city streets were quiet for a Saturday and there were high school students walking around in their uniforms greeting the tourists and offering directions. The local park was very busy with families celebrating a local festival with drumming display and food stalls. The city is known for its Kasafuku (meaning umbrella + good fortune). Shops , homes and businesses display the mobile like ornament Today i strolled the city and visited the park, Kaiko Temple, Sanno Club, Somaro and rice storehouses. It also still has the geisha and maiko culture

Today’s port was Kanazawa and I chose to go to Shirakawago, one of the most scenic places in Japan, nestled against the snow capped pine tree-covered mountains of the Shokawa River valley, a village of steeply thatched farmhouses . Added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995, centuries-old buildings are fine examples of the region's distinctive gassho-zukuri style of rural architecture. A collection of traditional farmhouses, barns and sheds, still in use today. Some are museums, shops and cafes but many are still lived in or used as workshops. Another glorious spring day. Just over an hour’s drive from the port.

Visited the Arashiyama district with its beautiful streets, temple, gardens and Bamboo forest. There are lots of things to see here including Sagano Romantic scenic train and river cruises It was very busy. We had 2.5 hours of free time before returning back to the ship.

Arrived in the port of Maizuru today. It is the gateway to Kyoto, journey time just over 1.5 hours. First stop to Kinkaku-ji, also known as the Temple of the Golden Pavilion. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a National Special Historic Site, it's one of Japan's most popular attractions. Built in 1397 as a shogun's retirement villa and converted to a Zen temple upon his death, it sits in the center of a magnificent garden with a wooden pavilion that extends over a reflecting pond. The glimmering exterior-the top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. A bit cooler today

Another glorious sunny day. Visited Tottori Flower Park and views to Mt Daisen. Sakaiminato, a coastal city in Japan’s Tottori Prefecture, is best known for its deep connection to folklore and the sea. As the hometown of legendary manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, the city is filled with tributes to his famous series, "GeGeGe no Kitaro." Visitors can explore Mizuki Shigeru Road, a lively street lined with over 150 bronze statues of the series' yokai (supernatural creatures). I missed getting photos of the statues

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, one of the most beautiful temples in Busan with a three-story pagoda decorated with lions. Continued on to Haendae Beach and APEC house. They were very proud to have held the meeting here in 2005.

Before boarding Diamond Princess cruise of Japan, stayed at Yokohama port. It is a vibrant city with a beautiful waterfront Yamash*ta Park, bustling Chinatown, shopping district Motomachi with eclectic shops, cafes, bars, lots of flowers and garden beds, cherry blossoms. Easy to walk around and clean. Enjoyed our first night in Japan.

Disney Magic At Sea cruise. Sailing in Australia until 10 February 2025. Lots of great spaces for family fun and also plenty for adults only pool, bars, dining and entertainment. I had a magical time enjoying the Disney characters, imaginative dining, spectacular shows, spa pampering and seeing the joy of all the little kid princesses and characters. Disney Wonder is a beautiful ship and the staff are wonderful
