History of Sonargaon:
Sonargaon was also a glorious town in Bangladesh in terms of art, culture and literature. The name Sonargaon, the ancient capital of natural beauty, is derived from Subarnagram. According to many, Sonargaon has been named after Sonabibi, the wife of IshaKhar, the chief of Bara Bhuiyan. Sonargaon was the capital of the Muslim sultans until the declaration of Dhaka as the capital of Bengal during the reign of Aurangzeb after the beginning of Muslim rule in the region in about 1261 AD. Although at that time this ancient capital was known as Panam. Sonargaon was also the capital of East Bengal during the reign of Isha Khan and his descendants. At present Sonargaon is an upazila of Narayanganj district.
Sonargaon also has several places of interest. Notable among them are the Folk and Crafts Museum, Zainul Abedin Memorial Museum, Panam City, Baradi BABA Loknaath Ashram &The Taj Mahal of Bengal. Apart from the Taj Mahal in Bengal, the rest of the places are very close.
