After stepping into tourism, David’s work took him beyond borders; connecting him with a wider network of tourism activists and practitioners. That exposure led him to enter a competition, one he went on to win, earning a grant that became a turning point in his career.

David invested that grant into a village that has since grown into one of Bangladesh’s leading community tourism hubs, Kailashganj. In this episode, David also shares his reflections on what community-based tourism looks like on the ground in the delta.

Meet Nazmul Azam David, a tourism activist whose journey began in the environmental conservation movement, working in the Sundarbans periphery where he saw firsthand how local livelihoods and forest conservation were deeply connected.

That experience led him to found what is now one of the largest N.G.O.s in Khulna city. But he soon realized advocacy alone wasn’t enough, so he started something new from the basement of his own house, a tourism initiative built on the belief that travel itself could be the solution, raising awareness about the delta while giving local communities a real stake in its protection and a new source of livelihood.
