দুগ্মন্ত্রের প্রতি শকুন্তলা
শকুন্তলা বিশ্বামিত্রের ঔরসে ও মেনকানাম্নী অন্দরার গর্ভে জন্মগ্রহণ করে শৈশবেই পিতামাতার কাছ থেকে পরিত্যক্ত হলে কম্বমুনি তাঁকে প্রতিপালন করেন। একদিন মুনিবরের অনুপস্থিতিতে রাজা দুগ্মপ্ত মৃগয়ায় তাঁর আশ্রমে প্রবেশ করলে শকুন্তলা রাজ-অতিথির যথাযথ সেবাযত্ন সম্পন্ন করেছিলেন। রাজা দুষ্মন্ত শকুন্তলার অসাধারণ রূপলাবণ্যে মুগ্ধ হয়ে এবং তিনি যে ক্ষত্রকুলসম্ভবা,-এ কথা শুনে তাঁর প্রতি প্রেমাসক্ত হন। পরে রাজা তাঁকে গোপনে গান্ধর্ববিধানে বিবাহ করে স্বদেশে ফিরে যান। স্বরাজ্যে ফিরে গিয়ে রাজা দুষ্মন্ত শকুন্তলার আর কোনো খোঁজ খবর না নিলে, কোনোরূপ যোগাযোগ রক্ষা না করলে শকুন্তলা তাঁর কাছে একটি চিঠি লিখে পাঠান। সেই চিঠিতে তাঁর মনের কষ্ট, বিরহ ও যন্ত্রণা লিপিবদ্ধ হয়। এই পর্ব সেই চিঠিরই ভাবরূপায়ণ।

Shakuntala towards Dushmanta
Shakuntala legitimately born in the couple of Bishwamitra and Menoka being deserted by her parents, Konnomuni brought up her in childhood while hunting once king Dushmanta entered the hermitage in the absence of the saint, Shakuntala properly took care of the royal guest. Seeing the outstanding beauty of Shakuntala king Dushmanta was charmed and hearing about her belonging to the race of Khatriya fell in love. Later on the king married her sacretly following the roll of gandarva and went back home. After a long time of detachment for the king's side, shakuntala wrote a letter to the king. In this letter she expressed her mental sorrowe agonics and suffering. This part is the reflection of the contents of the letter.
