We are four young adventurers from Denmark, Belgium, Poland and Argentina that will travel from South America to Canada, using nothing but environmentally responsible ways of travel: our own feet, bicycle, sailing, kayaking, hitchhiking, public transportation, or any other creative option when and if it presents itself. Along the way, we will visit and help at a number of local projects in the soc

ial and environmental sector. We would like to share our story by documenting it in cooperation with online, televised, and/or written press outlets. Our goal is to promote the awareness and importance of the use of ecologically responsible manners of transportation with the wider public. To make it more interesting and challenging we are currently searching for one other companion as to be able to form two teams of two persons who will race each other along several checkpoints. Having arrived at these checkpoints, together we will take on a specific environmentally relevant challenge, ranging from self-sufficient volunteering at a natural preservation project, to witnessing the pristine beauty of Aconcagua. Hi everyone!
An update is long overdue.... After having hitchhiked to Valencia, bicycling through some major mountains with full gear on my back to alicante, and travelling further to Granada's palaces and Algeciras, Simon took the ferry to Tanger to end in the marina in Smir where he spent the last 2 weeks on boat repairs, camping with locals in the Tetouan mountains, and meeting the rest of the 8-headed crew. After perhaps dropping by Gib first, the transatlantic crossing departure is set for Thursday! Catch you on the other side!

After a few days of letting of steam at Valencia I'm getting ready to say adiós to its lovely palm trees and beach. Having spent four days at a hostel was a nicely luxurious experience in comparison with most of the week before. Among many others, I met Mike from New Zealand, who is currently cycling across the Mediterranean area with his guitar. After a few nights of laying back with some beers listening to his riffs I decided to go with the flow that presented itself: today will be buying a second-hand bike and accompany him South to experience Granada's wonderful history. Afterwards will cycle further to Tangiers. Or not. Who would still argue to have any idea what happens along the way?...

Spent a short night in the open under the Mistral. Met loads of awesome people and now just crossed the Pyrenees on a truck en route for Valencia.

Last days before Simon starts hitchhiking down to Morocco, from where he'll help make preparations on board of the Christina II to sail across the Atlantic. The latest skype-conversation with the host ending with the reassuring statement:
"I've got a boat to paint and fix before you all get here and say 'what the f**k, Richard?'"

We're thrilled to have the support of Dixie Dansercoer :

An avid awareness of sustainable travel, a keen interest in global issues, a willingness to support environmental initiatives, an openness to travel the world with a team of colleague global citizens, …

Are you ready to (virtually) travel along with these guys who make the world more tangible by offering strong testimonials? Combining an attractive program of sportive, non-motorized methods of travel with an ambassadorial function for our Globe’s health, ahhhh, if only I could travel along with them. However, infected with the Polar Bug and being an soft-core environmental ambassador for the Polar Regions myself, my activities are on the ice. However, my heart is with them! I will be waiting for them at the extremes of our planet to explain the pressing issues that need humankind’s attention now!

Dixie

We just got our fourth companion confirmed! Bienvenido Martin!

Hi there friends,

Hope you all had a wonderful day. As if this day wasn't nice enough for Simon (31°C in the Campine region of Belgium!), he received an opportunity of a lifetime today!
Responding to one of our outstanding requests on the Couchsurfing website, Richard pointed our attention to his upcoming 55-day sailing expedition across the Atlantic. Of course, there wasn't a lot of hesitation... After the Loa-adventures in July/August's Tall Ships Races, Simon's sealegs are eager to see action again on board of the Christina 2! We will start halfway October off the coast of Morocco, crossing a host of islands, and expecting landfall in St. Thomas two months later. Simon will soon buy a GoPro and start hitchhiking Southwards. He'll pause his favorite way of travel for a few weeks in Southern France to get some money in by working at local farms, and afterwards continue his dash towards Morocco.

The Aconcagua-expedition will move to the end of January, as to be able to give us a chance to find out if we will have the necessary funds for making the ascent.

We also received a mail from an Argentinian fellow-traveler that showed interest in becoming our fourth companion. Of course, we have had a number of such requests that turn out awry quite fast, yet we feel this is one on our "seriously-considering" pile. So again, a very nice opportunity.

Ending with a bit of a bummer: after we contacted the SEGA (you know, the guys and girls from Sonic the Hedgehog...) legal team, they kindly told us to get lost with our name. Although they may have phrased it a bit differently, we still got the message and are currently thinking of an alternative name for our project...

So, all in all, enjoying life in a -and I quote my excessively worried mom here- "deeply and disturbingly abnormal" way.

Take care and pursue your dreams,
Simon and the other soon-to-be-something-else-than-"SEGA"-travelers

Hi friends!

We're really happy to see we've hit 100 fans yesterday! Thank you to all those who liked and shared this page! This is a really good start for us! Yet, we're trying to get at least 1000 for possible sponsor opportunities, so we still have a long way to go.

We on our side have been pretty busy lately. First and foremost, we're thrilled to have found ourselves a third companion on this trip! Jolanta responded to our project and told us that Poland is in! We've been running through everything the last few days with her, and it looks like we're very much on the same line about this project. Even greater is that she speaks about a million languages and is also aspiring to become a journalist.

Our main goal now is to get some publicity for our project and work out which specific projects we want to engage in during our trip. Over the last week there have been a lot of people that provided us with very useful information and opportunities. We would especially like to thank Nicolette for her contribution!

To be able to better share the progress of our project, we're planning to make a website, a promotional video and a video journal in the near future. We're also preparing to present ourselves to a number of interesting sponsors and press outlets. We're hoping to get support by the European Commission as well! So we're really looking forward to bringing you more updates on all these developments next week!

Take care!
Simon, Jolanta and Jim

With MLK's words resonating from the tv commemoration, we are proud to spread the word that we are LIVE on Facebook! And we too have a dream!
