From 10 to 15 July 2026, Sozopol will host the World Cup of Folklore – an international competitive championship bringing together the elite of folk art from different countries. The event is organized with the participation of the Municipality of Sozopol, the “Muzite” Association, Euro Folk Academy, and the European Association of Folklore Festivals.
Sozopol is one of Bulgaria’s most attractive seaside resorts – an ancient town with over a thousand years of history, located on a picturesque peninsula in the southern part of the Burgas Bay. The Old Town, the maritime atmosphere, summer stages, and rich cultural traditions turn Sozopol into a natural meeting point for folklore, history, and contemporary art.
The programme includes competition evenings, parades, and a gala concert on the stage of the Apollonia Summer Theatre, where authentic and contemporary folklore will meet in a dynamic and festive atmosphere. Participation is open to folk vocal and dance ensembles, orchestras, groups for traditional customs, and individual performers, in categories for children, youth, and adults.
The World Cup is part of the EAFF Folklore Championship System and is held within the framework of the XXI International Youth Festival-Contest of the Arts “Muzite” – Sozopol 2026, while retaining its independent championship status and separate ranking. The results from the competition programmes count toward the World Folklore Ranking List and provide real international visibility for the participants.
