Time for a longer and more personal post. This is all about my experience of being abroad in Ecuador during the 2020 lockdown, soon to come to an end after 180 days (cue visa panic and isolated adventures!)

A slightly different post to usual. This is my story of lockdown abroad in Ecuador, all 173 days and counting.

I hope everyone is safe and well.
I’ve certainly established I’m not good with keeping up on social media whilst travelling, let alone during a global pandemic. However I’m now back. I’ll soon post an update as to what I have been doing for the past year (spoiler- still in South America staying put), but for now check out my latest post on tips for hiking solo as a woman. After hiking over 500km solo in South America I thought it was a good post to start with. Link in bio.

Valle de las Animas or Valle de la Luna?
If you have time whilst in La Paz, visit both.
You can do Valle de la Luna in 45 minutes with a 15 boliviano entry, but Valle de las Armas can be explored for half or a full day, plus it’s free and off the usual tourist path.
Both are easy to do solo using public transport!
Skipping ahead to catch up a bit on where I’m at right now (Cusco- Peru!)

From Iguazu I travelled two days by bus to Salta in the North West of Argentina, before moving on to the wonderful town of Tilcara for a few days to explore nearby sights.
Cue watching sunsets with mate, long dusty hikes with failed hitchhike attempts, afternoon hammock naps and exploring colourful mountains.

No camping reservations left for the W or O trek? Do not fear! I was in the same position, and had a mild panic in November that I would not make be able to make it to Torres Del Paine as a result.
I booked my ticket to Punta Arenas anyway and hoped for the best... and it worked out! There are plenty of options if you haven’t managed to get camping reservations including:
- check a few days before as tour companies release spots they’ve held for their tours.
- turn up in Puerto Natales and visit the campsite companies in person.
- do day trips into the park, or adapt the W trek by staying in one or two campsites...
I will write a whole blog post on this topic but in summary, do not fear! And worst worst case, the region of Patagonia is filled with other amazing parks to explore, with many slowly creeping onto the tourist radar!

Patagonia. It was a crazy month full of hiking, camping, hitchhiking, bumpy roads, wind taken to a whole new level, dulche de Leche from the pot, new friends, and incredibly wild and sublime landscapes.
I have started some blog posts about my adventures around this region, but have also just started teaching here in Chile! So for now I’ll be posting to the gram.
And a massive shoutout and thank you to whose in-depth blog posts and messages helped with my trip planning. Thank you! If you do not follow them already check them out.

‘I hope life gives you wings, and you have the courage to use them’ – Christy ann martine So it is about time I give an update. My blog has pitifully fallen to the sidelines since December. Friends, family and those who follow me on social media are aware of the reasons for this, but
