Lake Titicaca is very low, we lost about 20% of the Bolivian Amazon to fire this year, the rains come later and later, and not like they used to.... It's not just Ecuador, It's the entire Amazon. I keep hearing the alarm, from the people who are the source of the problem. It's funny when some American criticizes the roadside liter here, or the smoke belching from a truck. I remind them that the US consumes 12 times the petroleum per capita that we use in Bolivia. 70-90% of indigenous children in the Bolivian Amazon have brain damage from mercury contaminated drinking water so that the gold keeps coming. The clearing of the Amazon for soy and beef is out of control. What happened to boycotting? It works. But nobody seems to care anymore. It's as though we've accepted that the planet is a lost cause, like an addict that plunges deeper knowing that they are past the point of recovery. Speaking of which, any of you who use co***ne... you should see what coca production does to the land. I have seen beautiful, virgin cloud forests reduced to hardpan in 5 or 6 years so people can make money on the misery of others. What madness. Intelligence, without wisdom, is an enormous and unguided threat to anything near it.

Bolivia's government has done nothing but assist in burning it's precious, primordial Amazon. They'll blame "the West" while they mine for gold and plant soybeans on the charred remains. To give you an idea... Bolivia has lost an area of Amazon equal in size to the US state of Florida. We'll never know how many species we lost to extinction because many were not described in the Bolivian Amazon.
