STORM ALERT: Residents across The Bahamas are being urged to prepare for heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and potential severe flooding as Tropical Storm Melissa continues to strengthen while moving closer to the islands.

As of the latest advisory, Melissa was located approximately 325 miles south-southeast of Inagua, with maximum sustained winds near 50 mph and higher gusts. The system is slowly moving northwest at 3 mph.

Meteorologists say the storm’s wind and rain field has expanded, raising concerns for low-lying and flood-prone areas, particularly in the central and southeastern islands.

Authorities are urging residents to secure their homes, clear drains, and remain vigilant, as conditions are expected to deteriorate over the next 48 hours.
