CHORTEN KORA in Tashiyangtse 😍😍😍
Unlike many Bhutanese stupas that follow the Tibetan style, Chorten Kora is modeled after the famous Boudhanath Stupa in Nepal. It was built in 1740 by Lama Ngawang Loday to subdue a local demon and to provide a place for devotees to practice their faith without having to travel all the way to Kathmandu.
The site is steeped in a touching and mystical history. Legend has it that a young princess from the Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh, India, agreed to be entombed alive within the chorten as a "living relic" to appease spirits and protect the valley. Because of this, the stupa is a major pilgrimage site for both Bhutanese and the Dakpa people from Tawang.

The journey to Tashi Yangtse is long but rewarding. You’ll pass through some of the most pristine and less-traveled parts of the country.
