We left the pine-scented valleys at dawn and climbed through rhododendron-lined switchbacks, watching terraced fields fall away beneath us.

At Bontela Pass the world opened — snow-capped ridgelines, fluttering prayer flags, and the hush that comes with heights.

Trekking Soi Yaktsa wasn’t just about reaching a point on a map; it was about the small, perfect moments between the steps: sharing tea with a yak herder, the first glimpse of the pass, and that long, joyful descent home.

Life can be beautiful — and in Bhutan, it feels like a reminder to slow down.

Prayer flags flutter like delicate promises, monasteries cling to cliffs, and the mountains teach you how to breathe again. Hike to Tiger’s Nest at dawn, sip butter tea with villagers, and watch mist roll across emerald valleys. Here you don’t chase photos — you collect moments.

Leave your rush behind, open your heart, and be present.

Hiking back from the Tiger’s Nest and coming across a man playing a traditional guitar was one of those tiny, perfect moments. The song was so old and soothing that time slowed — I felt rooted, humbled, and utterly at peace. Grateful for music that needs no words.

Day 2 — Thimphu vibes

We started the morning at the peaceful National Memorial Chorten, where prayer flags fluttered and the soft spin of mani wheels set a meditative tone. From there we climbed up to the majestic Buddha Dordenma — a breathtaking bronze presence watching over the valley, the view from the statue was simply humbling.

Midday we traded temples for trails and hiked south of Thimphu through a green corridor of rhododendrons and mossy pines. An easy hour in the forest — birdsong, cool mountain air, and pockets of sunlight through the canopy — felt like a reset.

Lunch was a cozy break at a local spot, then we wandered a lively arts-and-crafts market full of handwoven textiles, carved woodwork and thangka paintings. A highlight: visiting a handmade paper workshop and watching the traditional paper-pulp process up close — every sheet a tiny work of art.

We closed the day at the farmers’ market, where rows of vibrant produce and friendly faces brought the whole experience down to earth. Grateful for a day of culture, nature, and craft.
