From a transport and logistics perspective, Africaโs true size is both sobering and exciting.
Moving a container from the Port of Walvis Bay to Gaborone is achievable, but moving goods across borders from Durban to the mining areas of the DRC reveals a completely different challenge.
The distances are enormous, yet the opportunities are even bigger.
Efficient roads, railways, ports, airports, dry ports, logistics hubs and seamless border systems could unlock trade across the continent.
The new Africa map gives us a clearer picture of the market we are trying to connect under the AfCFTA.
Africa is not a small collection of countries.
It is one enormous logistics and trading space waiting to be properly connected.
The question is no longer simply how big Africa is.
The bigger question is how efficiently we can move people and goods across it, because that is where the real dividend lies.
If mother Africa could only prioritise one thing first...roads, rail or ports, which should come first to unlock trade for all of us?
