Rre Norman Clement Molomowatau Molomo was the first member of Parliament for Gaborone this day in March 1965.

To the credit of George Winstanley , the first Supervisor of Elections and his team , the first general election in Bechuanaland went off without a hitch.

This meant important leaders like Rre Molomo who had contested for the capital town as his Constituency could get down to the serious task of new developments with Engineers G.P Cornish as the chairman of Gaborone township and Wallet Large as the new town clerk.

Our first batch of vaccines donated by India has touched down in the land.

His Excellency President Masisi recently promised in his address, that Botswana would receive the vaccine this month.

This day in 1964 , the surburb of old Naledi affectionatly known as "Zola" in Gaberones was established by Cementation Ltd , which was to construct the new dam near Mr Brink's farm land.

Sir Richard Costain's construction workers were the first occupants of the labour compound in Naledi , tasked to build the new capital city buidings.

The entire expetriates community in Mafikeng was transported during a two week period a year later.

Also this day , the first ever Cabinet was sworn in as provided in the Constitution.

Each of the Ministries or departments of the new Government assigned to a Minister was required by the Constitution to be supervised by a Permanent Secretary ( PS) in the new public service at Gaberones.

All PS's were expatriates.

Infact , the new Government relied heavily on the services of expatriate civil servants throughout the Senior and Specialist cadres of the public service.

Basenyapelo Rapailane Chibana of gooChibana ward in Kanye.

The first ever Member of Parliament for his village in 1965.

In the 1970s he was relegated to Southern District Chairman at Tomela - where Council sits and purportedly make breakthrough decisions for ga-Maila and it's surrounding villages ( Manyana included)

Affectionately known as B.R , local history acknowledges him as one of the 1st Botswana Parliament icons.

This is a vintage picture of the late 60s after independance from imperial Mahikeng , at Gaberones on the oçcassion of the first ever Education Commission that examined the long term qualitative and quantitative development of education in relation to the Botswana national objectives.

With global education experts from United Kingdom , Ethiopia, Sweden and Finland was University of Botswana , Lesotho , Swaziland Gaborone campus Vice Chancellor Prof. Noah Olefile Seditisho and Honourable Minister of education Dr Ben Thema.

Today's throwback is of 1975 , the year that could best be described as soccer ridden.

It brought tremendous fund raising and sponsorship initiatives into Botswana's little wonder of proffesional football.

Gaborone United and Township Rollers , both the 1975 BFA Champion of Champions and the League Champions respectfully, chose their Beauty Queens in the capital city of Gaborone.

Fedecia Tshukudu of Kanye won Miss Township Rollers and Michelle Morebodi of Molepolole won Miss Gaborone United.

The women each won themselves an alladin lamp and a wrist watch.

The sold out events we held simultaneously at Tsholetsa House ( now Mascom Head Office building) and Town Hall ( Gaborone City Council Hall).

This is the entry point of the Kgalagadi village of Lokgwabe .

In Lokgwabe you also find different communities like Bakgothu and the Batlharo , an off-shoot of BaHurutshe that you find in Manyana.

Batlharo are also found at Khuis , Bogogobe and Tsabong.

Because of a peculiar twist in the sad chapter of colonialism over a century ago on this day, the Nama people of Namibia had to flee to Lokgwabe.

The great Kgosi Simon Gomxab Cooper of the Nama came to hide in this village with the remnants of his people.

He had led several guerrilla style skirmishes against the imperial Germans in Namibia .

Today , he wiped out a six man German patrol near the Namibian border with Botswana at Gobabis.
