I recently returned from the 10 day China Golden Triangle Tour with Laurus Travel (a Canadian based company). We had a very small group, with separate guides in Beijing, Xian and Shanghai.

All 3 guides had excellent English, were extremely competent and knowledgable, very experienced and attentive. All three had worked for Laurus for more than ten years, which is an extremely positive comment on Laurus. Jacob and Paul had amazing depth of knowledge regarding historical information.

I am well traveled and I have never learned so much about a country's history in such a short time. We learned that when the group size is over ten (ours was less than that) that Jacob is the tour leader and travels to all the cities and there is a 2nd guide. Elaine was so attentive, kind and fun. I took a day trip to Suzhou with her in addition to my time in Shanghai and I had a wonderful time on the canals and at the Humble Administrator's garden.

Unlike many tours, Laurus tours do not do any forced shopping stops. However, if you have special requests, they are usually accommodated (we went to the Hongqiao Pearl market, and we had free time to shop in Shanghai). Also, the visit to the Muslim quarter/bazaar/Mosque in Xian was amazing (in addition to the mind blowing terracotta warriors of course).

The guides helped us navigate the bureaucracy and the difficulties of transport, train tickets, and needing to use our passports to get into each tourist site and transport hub.

We will definitely use them again in the future.
