Everyone thinks I hated this Disney park. Here's what actually happened.
I ranked Hong Kong Disneyland last in my Disney parks ranking and a lot of you had feelings about that. Something had to be sixth. But I had one of my favorite Disney experiences ever here, and most of it didn't happen inside the park.
Here's what I wish someone had told me:
🎢 Focus on the exclusives. Grizzly Gulch is way closer to Expedition Everest (which I love) than Big Thunder Mountain (which I don't love, and I know this is an unpopular opinion 🤣). Mystic Manor is absolutely amazing — one of the best dark rides Disney has ever made. And Frozen Ever After was a walk-on by evening. I rode it three times.
⏳ Ride lines were mostly less that 30 minutes. But character lines were up to 6 hours, particularly for Duffy and Friends. My hack — stand off to the side and shoot video between guests. Screenshot later.
🍜 The food is adorable. Each morning, I had a pineapple bun with butter for breakfast at the park. It was cheap and delicious. I also loved the tasty and cute Duffy and Friends themed drinks. Character dim sum at the hotel was fabulous but pricey — pre-order the special dumpling 24 hours ahead or you'll miss it.
💰 For three nights at the Hong Kong Disneyland hotel and a two-day park pass, I paid under $1,100 USD. Grand Floridian or Grand Californian run about $1,000 per night just for the room, so this felt like a steal.
🧘 Day 2, I skipped the park until later in the day. This was not my original plan, but it have me time to relax and enjoy the hotel. It was perfect. Younger me would have done 10-hour days. Midlife me made the better choice.
You don't need two full days. You just need to know what to prioritize.
