‼️ Additional areas in Jasper National Park are opening on Friday, September 13, 2024

Trail crews are making daily progress on reducing hazards, like cutting down fire- and wind-weakened trees. This work takes time to complete safely – thank you for your patience while staff work in safe conditions. The wellbeing of staff and the public remains our top priority.

Beginning Friday, some new areas in the national park are reopening:

πŸ›£οΈ Snaring/Celestine Road
- Open to Moberly Homestead βœ…
- This opening provides safe access for Indigenous partners with ancestral ties longing to visit the area βœ…
- Closed past Moberly Homestead ❌
- All Campgrounds and the Palisades Centre remain closed ❌

❄️ Icefields Parkway
- All day use areas from the Icefields Centre until Honeymoon Campground are open βœ…
- Wilcox Pass Trail is open βœ…
- Chaba and Poboktan trails are closed ❌
- All campgrounds remain closed ❌

πŸͺ¨ Pyramid Bench Area
- Additional trails have reopened, including Marjorie Lake and Discovery trails βœ…
- Saturday Night Lake Loop, including the trail to Hibernia Lake are closed ❌
- Pyramid Fire Road is closed ❌

β›” Closures are in place to help keep you safe. Work to reduce hazards, like removing danger trees, is dangerous and ongoing in various areas.
🚫 Unauthorized drone use is illegal, puts lives at risk, and impacts wildfire response. Keep your drones at home – violators may be charged, convicted and fined under the Canada National Parks Act and National Park General Regulations.
β›” Campgrounds in Jasper National Park, including self-serve and backcountry campgrounds, remain closed until further notice.

As of Sunday, September 15, following a recommendation from the Emergency Advisory Committee, a committee of Municipal Council, the State of Local Emergency (SOLE) in Jasper will officially end.

The SOLE empowered the Municipality of Jasper to implement swift actions that were essential in protecting lives and property during the wildfire.

Ending the SOLE signals a transition from acute emergency response to stabilization and longer-term recovery efforts. While the immediate threat has subsided, our community still faces significant challenges in stabilizing the situation and recovering from the impacts of the wildfire.

The Jasper Recovery Coordination Centre (JRCC), a vital partnership between the Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada, is working hard to support our community through the recovery process. To learn more, please visit jasper-alberta.ca/p/recovery.

The Icefields Parkway (93N) is now open to through traffic.

πŸ›‘ Motorists must drive through the park without stopping. Safety has been assessed on the road for motor vehicle traffic only. All areas of the park, including rest stops and scenic lookouts, require further hazard assessments and danger tree removal before people can safely exit their vehicles.

No services are available on the Icefields Parkway north of the Icefields Centre or in the town of Jasper. Cell phone coverage is limited or unavailable on this section of 93N.

πŸ”Ή All toilets, viewpoints, day use and picnic areas, trails and campgrounds along this section of road are closed. Currently, there is no estimated date for reopening.

πŸ”Ή Search and rescue services are limited as resources are currently dedicated to wildfire management and resident and staff safety.

Plan ahead and consider your needs for fuel, food and restrooms. From the south end of 93N, services are available at Lake Louise, Saskatchewan Crossing and the Icefields Centre (no fuel). From the north end of 93N at Highway 16, services are available at Hinton to the east and Mount Robson, Valemount or McBride to the west.

We are thankful to announce that Jasper National Park and the town of Jasper are beginning to reopen for residents and businesses after the recent wildfire evacuation. This is a significant step toward recovery and we deeply appreciate the strength and resilience of our community during this challenging time.

We are focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents as they return home and we kindly ask that visitors wait a little longer before returning to Jasper. Our priority right now is to support the recovery efforts and give our community the time and space they need to heal and rebuild.

We look forward to welcoming you back when our residents and businesses are ready. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Together, we’ll come back stronger than ever.
