Frozen Northumberland Strait

The waters off Plage Gagnon are now covered in sea ice. Because the strait is relatively shallow, it cools and freezes more easily in winter.
That same shallow water also warms quickly in summer, making it one of the warmest ocean swimming areas in Atlantic Canada.

Beyond its beauty, this ice also helps protect our beaches from winter storms and erosion, a reminder of the powerful natural cycles shaping the coastline.
