While i am not much for a tour and would rather go out on my own, Britannia mine did deliver. We were able to enjoy an underground tour and demonstration as well as exploring the old mill building and some other out buildings around the old mine site.

If you are in the area I would suggest a stop for a tour of your own.

Playing around with my new phone. I was able to capture a couple quick shots of my favourite hiking buddy. Shes always got the drive, the nose and the energy to go the distance with me and keep us safe. Wouldn’t choose any other dog

Be careful where you walk! Its been rare for me to find shafts in the middle of a tunnel but this mine delivered with two. Not only two shafts in the tunnel but both are flooded. This is not necessarily a bad thing until you stir up sediment walking through the water and the shaft becomes covered.

You must be smart with foot placement when exploring old mines! These two photos are of the second mine worked from 1899-1902 on Vancouver Island

A look inside one of the mines found recently. 3 adits(horizontal underground mine entrance) where worked from 1899 to 1902. We were unable to locate the lowest adit possibly due to a cave in. Yes we got wet feet exploring this one! Gum boots did not help!

Exploring a bomb shelter this trip in Coal Harbour which was once the site of a RCAF base starting operations in 1940 and ran for 5 years before being disbanded. There are multiple shelters around town.

Do you see the moisture on the roof looking like diamonds?
