I'M OFFICIALLY A NEWFIE - MY 'SCREECHED IN' CEREMONY!

Girls Weekend in the cabin!

When I first decided to move to Newfoundland, my best friend, Linda, told me that she'll turn me into a 'Newfie yet.' I replied with... 'I'll turn you into a cruiser yet.'

Well, Linda did decide to join us on our Girls Gone Solo cruise in November with her daughter. So, to keep my promise, I joined her and our other bestie, Paula, for a weekend in the cabin.

After a fun afternoon of ice fishing on a frozen pond, Paula decided that the ULTIMATE way to 'turn me into a Newfie' would be for me to be 'screeched in.'

This is a Newfie tradition where anyone who visits our beautiful province for the first time can go through a ceremony reciting a Newfie oath, which includes eating bologna, kissing a cod, and drinking a shot of Newfie Screech.

Well, I did it! And I can now officially call myself a 'Newfie!'

During our Girls Gone Solo group getaway on the beautiful Norwegian Aqua, we really enjoyed our time at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian's very own private island.

While walking around to explore the area, my niece, Lyda, was asked to partake in a hula hoop competition. It ended up being just herself and the Norwegian crew member.

It was hard to tell who might win, as they were both doing great. In the end, Lyda was the winner. As you can see, she was excited to be named the Hula Hoop Champ.

Would you consider this the 'best FIRST vacation ever?'

During our Girls Gone Solo group getaway on the Norwegian Aqua, the girls had such an amazing time.

Would you believe this was not only their first cruise, but their very first vacation ever?

They fell in love with Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian's very own private island. Swimming in the ocean and sunbathing in the provided loungers was the absolute best way to enjoy their last full day on the ship.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the restaurant and, because we had purchased the drink package with our cruise booking, we took advantage of included drinks on the island as well. What a delicious way to cool off in the tropical sunshine.

If you could 'INSERT' yourself anywhere on this beautiful planet, where would you go... in a heartbeat?

For me, I've already crossed it off my bucket list 3 1/2 years ago - Maui, Hawaii!

Going forward, my passion is being on a cruise ship and exploring every stunning corner of this world.

To say this has been my worst travel experience ever is an understatement… and I haven’t even left Halifax yet!!!

This has never happened to me before. Good thing I gave myself 3 days to get to Florida!

Every morning we were greeted by a very friendly and energetic crew member on our way to breakfast.

He made it FUN to sanitize your hands before entering, and always put a smile on my face.

As you can see, he obviously LOVES his job on the Norwegian Aqua.

UPDATE: flight got cancelled last night. At least Air Canada was nice enough to cover the cost of a hotel room in Halifax since I didn’t get a refund for the hotel in Toronto I was forced to cancel last minute.

No longer flying to Toronto this morning. Now en route to Newark, NJ before finally arriving in Tampa. I don’t care where they send me, as long as I get on that ship on Friday!

………………………..

And the fun begins… it takes me 3 flights, 2 hotel nights, and 3 days before I finally step aboard the cruise ship! So worth it though… can’t wait for my Boots on the Water country cruise! Woohoo!

One of the coolest experiences I had during our Girls Gone Solo getaway almost felt like walking on water.

The glass walkway on the Norwegian Aqua is called Oceanwalk, which is NCL's first glass bridge at sea, allowing guests to walk over the water and get unique ocean views as part of the expansive, wrap-around Ocean Boulevard on Deck 8.

What it is: A transparent, glass-bottomed bridge extending over the ocean.

Location: Part of the larger Ocean Boulevard complex on Deck 8.

Experience: Offers breathtaking sea views and photo opportunities as you "walk on water". SOURCE: Google

Oceanwalk was very popular, despite hesitation from a lot of passengers. I always try to encourage others to live a full life, even if it means getting out of your comfort zone... live with no regrets!'
