This is so exciting for me! One of my favourite artist's homage to an amazing lady I knew when I lived in Tsiigehtchic NWT

"Alestine's Fish Camp on the Mackenzie River"

This painting was commissioned by the government to be part of the art collection of the Whistle Bend Care Facility in Whitehorse, Yukon. Twelve artists created large pieces to set the tone in the living quarters of the building, inspired by the theme "Bringing the Outside In". I chose to illustrate the fish camp of Ms. Alestine Andre, respected Gwich'in elder and re-known ethno-botanist who returns every August to set up nets far North on the Mackenzie River to help sustain her household with traditional food. I would like to thank Ms. Andre for sharing her story and allowing me to depict this segment of traditional life of her people.

How artists play hooky- lol! I'm supposed to be doing art for Kabloona, but I found an old canvas I didn't like and decided to repaint it for the boys' games room. (sorry for the fuzzy pic)

I still love my wolf. I have done more intricate pieces, more colourful pieces, but every time I look at my wolf his eyes and stance just hold me in awe. I MUST do another wolf soon. Speaking of soon, I am currently working on a piece with a christmas flavour-revealing soon

Here's a piece not a lot of people have seen. I did it for a park that has a population of Piping Plover, a sweet little bird that is sadly on the endangered species list. They are a beach bird. How can a bird smart enough to dig life on the beach be endangered?

My cat is currently is with a black and white background, but I thought I'd give you a peek what as what the original colouring was. I do prefer the black and white but in retrospect I think this worked pretty well too.
