💀 I'm not dead ⚰️

Earlier today, the lady at the vegetable stand asked about winter getaways. She'd never heard of a European longstay, or that you could cross the Atlantic by ship instead of flying.

Then a client emailed wanting a cruise that doesn't leave from a US port, and I was able to recommend options some with deals for solo travellers.

Then I got my hair cut. New stylist asks what I do, I say travel agent. He says he thought we were dead, he just books everything himself now.

Booking the trip is the easy part, and yes, it's the part that pays my bills. But the job was never really about the booking. It's knowing the thing you didn't know to ask for.

You won't find my obituary online.

All dressed in red in Kanazawa, Japan, looking like I’m about to star in the Japanese remake of Lady in Red… when I spotted it: GOLD. FOILED. ICE CREAM.

Did I need a $20 CAD ice cream cone wrapped in edible gold? Absolutely not.

Did I have any choice? Also absolutely not.

Because when Japan presents you with something shiny, decadent, outrageous and completely unnecessary, the only appropriate response is to hand over your cash and eat the damn thing.

That’s Japan for you: beautifully over-the-top, unapologetically extravagant, and often times cash-preferred. 💴

Are you an umbraphile? 🌑
No, it’s not a weird thing you caught on the Dark Web.

Soundgarden said it best: "Black hole sun, won't you come?"... An umbraphile is someone who loves getting shady. They chase eclipses. Honestly, I'm here for it. People have been travelling to witness eclipses for centuries.

I'm booking people on tours for August 2027's eclipse in Egypt and also Tunisia. It's nerdy, it's spectacular, it's slightly ridiculous... in other words: exactly my kind of travel!

UNESCO just gave Uzbekistan its flowers.

UNESCO has recognized ten remarkable buildings that helped rebuild Uzbekistan's capital after the 1966 earthquake. They're bold, geometric, earthquake-resistant—and unmistakably Central Asian, blending international modernism with local craftsmanship and tradition.

It's a reminder that heritage isn't only ancient temples and medieval streets. Sometimes it's concrete, mosaics, metro stations, and the optimism of an entirely new city.
