In Our Element – An Element Four Weekly Series #2

•Pettes Cove Beach•

This week’s adventure took us to one of our favourite little spots on Grand Manan — Pettes Cove Beach.

There’s something special about this place. As soon as you arrive, you’re greeted by a picture-perfect view of Swallowtail Lighthouse standing proudly across the water, with the dramatic cliffs and coastline creating one of the most beautiful scenes on the island.

Before making our way down to the beach, we stopped into the charming little gift shop tucked along the road. It’s the kind of place that feels like a hidden treasure itself, filled with local art, island-inspired finds, and plenty of character.

Then came the real treasure hunt.

Pettes Cove is one of those beaches where you can just wander, scanning the shoreline for tiny pieces of perfectly polished sea glass and fascinating stones shaped by decades of Fundy tides. Every few steps seemed to reveal another colourful piece of sea glass or a rock with unique patterns and colours.

One of the things we love most about exploring Grand Manan as a family is that the simplest adventures often become the most memorable. A beach walk turns into a treasure hunt. A lighthouse view becomes a moment to pause and take it all in. And a few hours spent together outdoors become memories we’ll carry with us long after the day is over.

A Front-Row Seat to Nature’s Majesty

One of the things we love at Element Four is that you never know what wildlife you’ll see right outside your window.

This incredible photo was taken from the backyard of Oceans Oasis as a bald eagle took flight from the Castalia Marsh, just steps from the cottage. Watching these magnificent birds soar over the marsh and coastline is something we never get tired of—and neither do our guests.

Grand Manan is a hidden gem for birdwatchers, with the Castalia Marsh serving as an important habitat for a variety of species throughout the year. From eagles and ospreys to shorebirds and migrating waterfowl, there’s always something to spot if you take a moment to slow down and look.

Some mornings the marsh is wrapped in mist, other days it’s alive with birdsong, and occasionally you’re lucky enough to witness a moment like this—an eagle lifting off against the backdrop of the Bay of Fundy.

A real reset does not take a week. It takes about a day if the day is built right.

Afternoon: settle in, first sauna round before dinner. Evening: the long soak- the part where you both finally stop talking about logistics. Morning: slow coffee, one more cycle, and a drive home that feels different than the drive in.

Twenty- four hours. We have seen what it does for people.

In Our Element- an Element Four Weekly Series #1
•Net Point Trail • 0.8km • Easy

Welcome to the very first edition of In Our Element — a weekly series where we share some of our family’s favourite adventures around Grand Manan.

This week we headed out to explore the Net Point Trail in North Head. It’s a short, easy coastal walk, but one that reminds us why we love living here. The trail winds along the shoreline with beautiful views across the water, and right from the very start you’re rewarded with a stunning look toward Swallowtail Lighthouse and Pettes Cove, then heading around the point to see views of Long Island Bay and the ferry wharf.

One of our favourite things about exploring Grand Manan with our little guy is seeing the island through fresh eyes. What might seem like a simple trail becomes an adventure filled with rocky shorelines, towering trees, salty ocean air, and plenty of stops to take in the view.

These are the moments we treasure most—unplugging from the busy pace of life, spending time together, and rediscovering new corners of an island we never seem to stop falling in love with.

Introducing: In Our Element- an Element Four Weekly Series

Element Four has always been about more than just a place to stay.

When we created Oceans Oasis and Embers Edge, our dream was to share a little piece of the island we love so much with others. Grand Manan isn’t just where our cottages are located—it’s our home, our playground, and the place where our family spends countless hours making memories together.

Whether we’re hiking a coastal trail, searching for sea glass on a quiet beach, or simply enjoying the island’s natural beauty, some of our favourite family moments happen outdoors.

That’s why we’re excited to launch In Our Element, a new weekly series where we’ll take you along on our family’s adventures around Grand Manan.

Every Sunday, we’ll share one of our favourite hikes, beaches, lookouts, or hidden gems—giving you a glimpse of the incredible places that make this island so special. Our hope is to help future guests discover all the beauty, adventure, and simple moments that await beyond the doors of Oceans Oasis and Embers Edge.

Some moments are extra special.

Last week, Oceans Oasis became part of a love story we’ll never forget. We were honoured to host this beautiful couple as they celebrated one of life’s biggest milestones — their engagement.

When we created Element Four, our hope was to build more than just a place to stay. We wanted to create a space where people could slow down, reconnect, make memories, and celebrate life’s meaningful moments together. Seeing those moments unfold right here at our little Nordic spa retreat is something we’ll never take for granted.

To the happy couple, thank you for choosing Oceans Oasis to be part of your journey. We wish you a lifetime filled with love, laughter, adventure, and countless beautiful memories together.
