http://www.etsy.com/shop/ShhDollWorks I started Shh Doll Works after a 30 year career in the legal field.

Sewing was something I enjoyed early on and with the arrival of grandchildren found a passion for making fashion doll clothes. I have a focus on detail and the finish of the fashions I make. All fashions are made from new material and in a smoke-free environment. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy the fashions posted as much as I have had making them. I decided to so something totally different and try my hand at a Japanese inspired kimono. I called this set "Sakura", which means cherry blossom. I did do some research on the Obi, and they can be as much as 10 meters in length! Even reduced to 1/6 scale, that would mean a wrap of a meter or more and would be extremely bulky at this scale. Also, the various ways to wrap and fold an obi is a bit complicated, especially to a novice 😊. So I opted to just fasten the obi at the back with hooks and thread loops. I made the little socks and "flipflops" as well to complete this outfit.

This latest set I made from a Simplicity doll pattern. I pretty much used the same colours for the coat and lining as on the pattern envelope. Next time I make it I will likely make it in a wool. It's a very '70's style coat. For under the coat I added a copper coloured silk blouse and a faux suede skirt with front slit finished with metal eyelets and lacing. Etsy now encourages that sellers post a video of the sales item. This adds another level of frustration in doing the photos. Please enjoy the video! 😖

I decided to do up some very simple knit dresses. Each dress is just a little different from the one before (aside, of course, from the different colours and prints). When I finished all four simple dresses, I decided to add a different style of hat with each dress. And because I'm a completist, I then did up a different purse to go with each dress. Before I knew it, my simple dresses became a lot more complex. Each set also included the earrings and choker necklaces.

I do love sweater sets, and this set is a classic. Since it snowed today (it's almost mid-April for heaven's sake!), this set is appropriate for my area's current weather. This fashion included the sleeveless bodysuit, the open cardigan with self-tie belt, wool plaid skirt, headband, purse and the little cat broach.

A little set I recently finished. It's a very simple red dress in a sequined stretch mesh. However, I wanted to add a bit of drama so I opted to put a full-length metal zipper down the back. As the dress is red there is the possibility that the fabric dye could stain the vinyl doll, so it is lined in a pale pink stretch mesh. The asymmetrical satin coat is a new design for me. I will definitely return to this style in the near future. I named this set "Flirt Alert".

A very retro day dress in a '40's/'50's print. Lately I have been using sinamay to make my hats. It's a lightweight, loosely woven fabric made from the fibers of the abaca tree. It is easy to work with and shape (though it dulls my sewing needles!). However, for this set I decided to return to a fabric linen hat. I just thought it worked better with this particular dress. I do find though that solid black hats make photographing the doll more difficult as the dark hat casts a shade over the doll's face. To lessen that effect I lined the underside of the brim in the same white fabric as the trim on the dress.

I often return to a set, but I use different fabric or a different colour. So while going through my stash of bridal satin I found this canary yellow fabric. A difficult colour to deal with. I cannot recall when or how I came into this piece of bright yellow satin. Anyway, after some thought, I decided to use this very cheery yellow to make the 2-piece bustier set again - I had done this set last year in black & white and in pink. The feather overskirt is removable. It's a great colour for AA dolls, and it's Black History Month! I hope you like this very sunny colour and it brightens your February!

I had a bit of fun setting up the photos for this set. I called this fashion "Down the Rabbit Hole". The hat was made with pink satin supported by posterboard cut with my Scan n Cut machine. It took me 3 or 4 tries to get the hat I wanted. I sourced most of the diorama items at Michael's. The jacketed rabbit is from Temu.

I'm still on wintery fashions. This one took me quite some time to finish - I seemed to be suffering from lack of concentration, and the post-Christmas doldrums perhaps. Anyway, I decided to tackle the boucle wool I have and thought it would look good as a jacket. Boucle fabric is made from irregular and knotted wool and has a lot of texture. It's also a pain to work with. This set included the jacket, turtleneck top, leggings, purse and earrings and a rhinestone broach. In the photos the broach is difficult to make out on the jacket's lapel. I called this set "Classic in Black and White".

Choosing the right doll to model a set is very important. However, I really think I didn't chose correctly with either doll this time. The brunette is a new doll which I was able to pick up at a very good price. She's an older model and this was definitely the wrong set for her. I also ended up not liking the blonde in this set. I had the fashion on another doll before the camera was set up but I changed my mind on the doll. Another mistake, I think. However, I really like the set and it sold quickly. The fashion included the hooded jacket, turtleneck knit sweater, leggings and tote bag.

Today I did something very stupid: While using a open-toed presser foot (I was trying to do machine tailor tacks on black and white boucle wool because I was too lazy to do them by hand) I put the machine needle straight into my finger!!!! OW!!! I pulled the needle out of my finger, almost no blood. At the time I was trying to disentangle the thread under the presser foot and had my foot on the machine pedal. Stupid!!! Hubby administered first aid and was appropriately consoling.
