📖 Next up in Dublin… the Book of Kells Experience!

After our Trinity College campus tour, we headed to see the Book of Kells and the famous Old Library.

The Book of Kells is over 1,200 years old and contains the four Gospels, handwritten and incredibly detailed by monks. It’s hard to imagine the amount of time and work that went into creating something like this so many centuries ago.

We also got to walk through the Long Room, which is currently in the middle of a HUGE restoration and preservation project. Most of the historic books have actually been removed from the shelves so they can be cleaned, documented and safely stored while work is being done to protect this 300-year-old library for generations to come.

So while we didn’t get to see the Long Room with all of its shelves filled with books, it was pretty interesting seeing it at this stage and learning just how much work goes into preserving a place like this.

Definitely worth seeing while in Dublin, even during the restoration. 🇮🇪☘️

☘️ Our first tour in Dublin… Trinity College!

What a great way to start exploring the city. We took a guided campus tour of Trinity College and learned so much about the history, traditions and stories behind this famous university.

A few fun things we learned:

🔔 Don’t stand under the Campanile when the bell rings! Legend says students who do will fail their exams and never graduate.

👩‍🎓 Former provost George Salmon famously opposed women attending Trinity. Today, female graduates have a tradition of posing with their certificates in front of his statue. A little Irish irony!

🏛️ We saw the Rubrics, the oldest building on campus, dating back to 1699 and apparently also the most haunted.

🌿 The Museum Building was one of my favourites. It has 654 different carvings based on native Irish plants, beautiful Connemara marble and even two enormous Irish deer skeletons inside.

We also learned about some pretty impressive former students, including Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and Bram Stoker.

So much history packed into one campus! I love a tour that gives you all those little stories you’d never know just walking around on your own. 🇮🇪☘️

And we are just getting started! 🇮🇪

🇮🇪 Our first home away from home in Ireland!

We’ve arrived in Dublin and for our first few nights, we’re calling the Academy Plaza Hotel home.

Location is always important when choosing a hotel, and this one puts us right in the heart of Dublin, just off O’Connell Street. We can walk to so much from here including Trinity College, Temple Bar, the GPO and plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops.

The hotel has 304 newly refurbished rooms, a coffee shop (always important ☕️), restaurant and bar, and so far it’s proving to be a great base for exploring the city.

We have a few days in Dublin before our private tour begins, and we’re going to make the most of them! Guinness Storehouse, some of Dublin’s main sights, good Irish food, a pint or two 🍺 and whatever else we discover along the way.

I’ll be sharing the hotels, experiences, food and little finds throughout our 13 days in Ireland, so follow along! ☘️

🇮🇪 Ireland, here we come! ☘️

Today I’m on my way to Ireland for a 13-day private guided tour, travelling with a wonderful group of friends, family and clients!

We are travelling with a small, family-run Irish tour operator, which is one of the things I’m most looking forward to.

A few of us are heading over early to spend some time exploring Dublin before our tour officially begins. We already have the Guinness Storehouse booked, along with some of Dublin’s must-see attractions, and I’m sure there will be a pub or two involved as well. 🍺

Once our private tour begins, we’ll be making our way through some incredible parts of Ireland, including Clifden, Westport, Di**le, Killarney, Ballycastle, Donegal, Kilkenny and Lahinch.

Over the next couple of weeks, expect plenty of Ireland on this page! ☘️

🏰 Castles, history and Irish culture
🌊 Rugged coastlines and beautiful countryside
🏘️ Small towns, villages and local experiences
🍺 Traditional pubs and, of course, Guinness
🥘 Irish food, local favourites and probably a few things I’ve never tried before
🎶 Music, stories and whatever else we discover along the way!

I’ll be sharing our travels as we go, including what I love, where we stay, what we eat and some of the experiences I think are worth adding to an Ireland itinerary.

A quick note for my clients: I will still be working and checking emails while I’m away, but with the time difference and our touring schedule, my response time may be a little slower than normal. I appreciate your patience while I’m out experiencing Ireland firsthand!

There’s nothing quite like experiencing a destination myself so I can come home with even more ideas for your future travels.

Follow along... Ireland starts now! 🇮🇪☘️

Think you’ve seen Europe? 🏰 Maybe it’s time to go somewhere a little unexpected.

Treasures of the Balkans & Transylvania with Cosmos takes you through 4 countries in 12 days, from Sofia to Bucharest, with stops in Serbia, Hungary and the heart of Transylvania.

Picture medieval towns and cobblestone streets, Budapest along the Danube, the mountain town of Brasov, beautiful Peles Castle and, of course, a visit to Bran Castle, forever connected to the legend of Dracula. 🧛

What I like about the Cosmos travel style is the balance. The logistics are taken care of, but your days aren’t completely planned for you.

🏨 Hand-selected accommodations
🚌 Transportation between destinations
👣 Guided sightseeing with Tour Directors & Local Guides
📍 Sofia, Belgrade, Budapest & Bucharest
🏰 Bran Castle & Peles Castle
⛪ Boyana Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
🍽️ 11 breakfasts & 2 dinners
🗺️ Free time to explore on your own or add optional experiences

It’s escorted travel without feeling like every minute of your vacation is scheduled, and Cosmos does a great job of keeping the price point approachable.

2027 departures starting from $4030 CAD per person
Land only | Based on double occupancy | Airfare additional

If the Balkans and Transylvania haven’t been on your Europe list before, maybe they should be. ❤️

Message me and I can help with the tour, flights and any pre or post-tour stays to make it all come together.
