It’s National Tourism Week! Here in the Nelson Kootenay Lake region, tourism is more than just visitors, it’s a vital part of our community, our economy and our way of life.

Across British Columbia, tourism generates billions in revenue and supports over 100,000 jobs, helping sustain small businesses, local experiences and the places we’re proud to call home.

And locally, the impact is clear.

In 2025, we surveyed residents across the Nelson Kootenay Lake region and found that 95% believe tourism is important to our local economy.

This week, let’s celebrate the businesses that welcome visitors, and the visitors themselves, who help make our region so vibrant!

Not sure where to start? Keep it simple: bring a few reusable essentials like a travel mug for your favourite caffeinated beverage, a container or jar for stocking up on snacks in the bulk aisle and a small reusable cutlery set for eating while you’re out and about.

Small choices can make a big impact! 🌎
