This is not the destination I choose for someone chasing nightlife until 2 a.m. It *is* one I consider for couples who want to exhale, reconnect and spend a ridiculous amount of time staring at blue water.

Antigua all-inclusive resorts are a beautiful fit for couples looking for a quieter Caribbean vacation with incredible beaches and genuine downtime.

Choose Mexico when resort variety, food and off-resort options matter most. Choose the Dominican Republic when a sweeping beach and strong package value are leading the wish list.

Canadian travellers comparing Mexico and the Dominican Republic should consider beach style, resort food, excursions and overall package value—not just the lowest price. There are exceptions on both sides, which is exactly why I never recommend by country alone.

Save this comparison and follow for straightforward help choosing the Caribbean vacation that fits you best.

Everyone agreed on Mexico.

Perfect—except one person imagined quiet mornings and a beautiful beach, another imagined pool parties, Grandma wants nightly entertainment, and the teenagers are expecting waterslides.

Same destination. Completely different vacation in everyone’s head.

Before choosing a resort, I ask each household for:

Their three genuine must-haves
One thing they absolutely do not want
Their preferred vacation pace
Whether the priority is the resort, beach, food or activities

We don’t need nine identical wish lists. We do need to know which expectations can peacefully exist at the same property.

Because a gorgeous resort is still the wrong resort if half the group thought they were booking a relaxing escape and the other half packed for spring break. 😂

If it’s your family’s first all-inclusive, I want it to be easy for the kids—but still feel like an actual vacation for the adults. 😂

My Pink Pick is Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana.

It has the obvious family wins: a waterpark with slides and a lazy river, kids’ activities, huge pools and plenty to keep everyone occupied. But what earns it the Pink Pick is that the rooms, dining and overall atmosphere still feel properly upscale—not like you accidentally booked a children’s resort and brought your luggage.

There are 375 suites, seven restaurants, seven bars and lounges, swim-up room options and 24-hour in-suite dining. It’s also located on beautiful Juanillo Beach in Cap Cana. (Current resort details)

My honest warning? This isn’t my budget pick. It often costs considerably more than a standard Punta Cana family resort, and I wouldn’t tell someone to blow their entire travel budget just to stay here.

But for families who can comfortably afford the upgrade—and want waterslides without sacrificing good food, beautiful surroundings and a grown-up atmosphere—it’s one I’d confidently recommend.

Jamaica is for travellers who want the resort *and* the destination.

Think jerk chicken, waterfalls, catamarans, music, rum and a culture you can actually feel. Jamaica all-inclusive vacations are especially rewarding for travellers who want beautiful resorts, memorable food and worthwhile off-resort excursions.

If you are happy to leave the pool for a day and explore, Jamaica belongs on your list.

You do not need 14 people to agree on every excursion.

Some people want the 7:00 AM catamaran. Some want a slow breakfast and the pool. Grandma may love the cultural tour but have absolutely no interest in your ATV adventure.

That is normal.

Choose one or two anchor moments for the whole group—a welcome dinner, private boat day or family photo—and let everything else be optional.

Nobody should feel guilty for resting. Nobody should be dragged through an activity they hate because “we came together.” And nobody should have to organize an alternative itinerary for every person.

The best group trips create time together without turning the vacation into a school field trip.

The prettiest resort on Instagram is not automatically the right resort for you.

Is beach quality non-negotiable? Are you a foodie? Do you hate long walks? Do your kids need slides? Is a swim-up worth the upgrade?

Choosing an all-inclusive resort means looking beyond Instagram at the beach, food, layout, room category and the way you genuinely travel. Matching the resort to the traveller is where the real planning happens.

Follow for honest resort advice before you spend thousands on the wrong one.
