We started out serving with The Open Door, an outreach to single mothers throughout the Lower Mainland. Over the years it has become apparent that most of the women who come to us would greatly benefit from work experience as an important stepping stone toward self-sufficiency. We, therefore, started a project of providing food catering services to local churches and organizations. The women gain

ed confidence, as well as the valuable work experience, while at the same time, we felt we were able to provide a worthwhile service to the community. As a result, we have been encouraged to continue this "ministry" which today is known as a "social enterprise." We had no ideas we were leaders in the movement and before the term became popular. A company name like ‘The Banqueting Table’ evokes images of fresh, colorful food, abundantly set out on tables dressed with clean linens and sparkling dinnerware. These images would be true to the standards and creativity behind the name, but that’s not all it represents.
