It’s that time of year again! We are fostering this sweet foursome of rescued, orphaned raccoons. As ADORABLE as they are, their story is a HEARTBREAKING one. Thankfully these 4 are safe, but countless others will suffer and die this spring. Ontario is in an absolute raccoon crisis! Each and every spring thousands of baby raccoons are orphaned and left to die when their mothers are killed or relocated. Mothers are out in the open more than normal, looking for food for their young, which draws attention to them, and puts them in harms way. They are hit by cars, killed, trapped, and relocated by people who don’t want them around their property.
From April until July, the phones ring off the hook at private Wildlife Rescues across the province. They are all full within weeks, leaving them no choice but to euthanize due to lack of space. Ontario needs more Wildlife Rehabbers, and assistance from the Government. The Government gives ZERO assistance, in fact, they make things harder for caring people trying to help. Please leave raccoons alone, support wildlife rescuers, and spread the word!
