Joyce from Alaska shared her thoughts on our very popular Active Galapagos trip - 8 days on the 14 passenger Samba.

There's a reason Ecuador has an "Avenue of the Volcanoes"! Going north to south, there are 7 active volcanoes:

Cayambe
El Reventador
Guagua Pichincha
Cotopaxi
Tungurahua
Sangay
Potrerillos

Sangay volcano is constantly erupting, but thankfully not in a "major" sort of way.

𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗢𝗦 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗔

We've been chartering the 14 passenger no-nonsense Samba ship for nearly 20 years for our Active Galapagos trips (over 20 departures / year!). 8 days on board, and full-on focus on getting the most out of your time in the islands. Kayaks, paddle boards, early mornings, late afternoons, plenty of snorkeling. A great crew... and PIRATES!

Here's pirate Juan Salcedo, whose family owns and operates the ship - he is one of the principal naturalist guides on the ship. Clearly the Samba is about the cross the Equatorial line here in this pic - a time where crew and guests are encouraged to act up a little!

We loved this book!

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. By Harry Thompson (2005). The book reimagines Charles Darwin’s voyage aboard HMS Beagle through the eyes of Captain Robert FitzRoy. Blending meticulous research with psychological insight, the book explores the fraught relationship between FitzRoy and Darwin, examining themes of faith versus reason, authority, mental illness, and the moral tensions of Victorian imperial science, all while charting the expedition that helped reshape humanity’s understanding of the natural world.

CNH Tours was in Greenland these past days - but moving on to Baffin Island now... Then we'll be exploring the Labrador coastline, checking out the impressive Torngat Mountains National Park. We'll be exploring Viking settlements as well as visiting local Inuit communities.
