BC Hughes

BC Hughes BC Hughes offers Tourism Development, Management and Marketing services for clients across Canada. We’re a bit different than most.

We get great destinations noticed and put tourism businesses on the map. We love the big picture thinking, but the small details are what drive us. We believe that product development and marketing are directly connected as part of a continuous cycle. We work on the values of honesty, simplicity, humour and hard work. We’re not fans of ‘teaching or preaching’. We would rather empower you with the

tools to be able to create real, lasting changes

We’ll push you further than you might be comfortable

We work in the creative space because doing the same old thing won’t make you stand out in the very crowded and competitive tourism industry

We believe you’ll have more success if you build and refine a
better-quality product than just trying to market a mediocre one

We chose developing great content over flashy taglines with no substance

We know lasting change doesn’t happen overnight and usually involves a lot of steps to get there

We feel it’s better to be different than to try to compete

We don’t do a one-size-fits all

We believe that less is more

We know we’re not everyone’s cup of tea and we’re cool with that. Everyone doesn’t always want a grande toasted soy decaf mocha with light whip right?

Saskatchewan Tourism Week (May 25–29) is a reminder of just how important tourism is to this province.

It’s a sector that creates real opportunity across communities, generating more than 61,300 jobs during peak season; roughly 10% of total employment provincewide.

BC Hughes is fortunate to do meaningful work in this space. We’ve had the opportunity to work with incredible partners in the province, including Tourism Saskatchewan, Grasslands National Park, Parks Canada, the RCMP Heritage Centre and more than 100 small and medium sized tourism operators. And in a few days, we’ll be back to this great province to host AWEshop #19 with another group of tourism rockstars focused on AWEsome new experiences.

We’re proud to be part of the tourism work happening here.

It’s National Tourism Week and we’re celebrating the people who make it all happen. Tourism doesn’t just happen; it’s built by people who care deeply about where they live and what they offer. This week, we’re celebrating the businesses, DMOs, and communities we work with year-round. The ones creating experiences that make people stay longer, explore further, and come back again.
You’re the reason it all works.

For over 13 years, we’ve been behind the scenes helping shape what “motorcycle-friendly” really means across Ride the Highlands.

It’s not just a checklist. It’s a mindset.

Working alongside operators like Harsha at the Lakeview Motel in Haliburton, we’ve supported businesses in understanding what riders actually need; and how small, thoughtful details can turn a stay into something memorable.

This is what happens when tourism development goes beyond marketing. It becomes experience-driven, rider-informed, and rooted in people who genuinely care.

Proud to play a part in building a region that riders trust—and keep coming back to.

We love seeing great ideas gain momentum.

Merid and Magna is doing exactly that, transforming a unique prairie property into a destination rooted in experience. Set in restored historic schoolhouses on the prairie, they’ve already created something special, blending place, story, and stay.

Chris is currently working with Katherine and Keith who recently completed our latest Tourism Saskatchewan AWEshop; helping to shape a new experience that builds on what they do best: incredible traditional prairie cooking, paired with an unforgettable place to stay.

This is what great tourism looks like, taking something authentic and turning it into a meaningful experience. We’re excited to see where they take this next.

🏫 A unique piece of Saskatchewan history is becoming a must-visit destination.

Merid & Magna Historic Retreat, featuring two restored one-room schoolhouses, is drawing visitors from across Canada and beyond as it expands its agrotourism experiences.

Owner Katherine Albertson says the project has grown from preserving local heritage into eventually offering hands-on farm experiences, boutique stays, and small events, all with support from Tourism Saskatchewan.

Another great week working with tourism entrepreneurs from Saskatchewan.

Chris and Bev hosted AWEshop 18, with Tourism Saskatchewan, bringing six businesses to Saskatoon to focus on one thing: building new AWEsome tourism experiences.

We kept it hands-on.

The group stepped into a Ukrainian dance session at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada - National, Saskatoon and experienced Winter Whiskey at Black Fox Farm & Distillery.

Because creativity doesn’t just come from sitting in a room. It comes from doing.

BC Hughes recently had the opportunity to develop a Visitor Experience Strategy for Grasslands National Park in Saskatchewan, Canada’s only national park dedicated entirely to prairie grasslands. Home to one of the country’s most endangered ecosystems and more than 30 species at risk, Grasslands is a remarkable place to reimagine what a park experience can be.
Working closely with Parks Canada staff, we explored new ways to “do parks differently,” including the creation of the Rattle Snake Ramble, a fresh and engaging visitor offer.
Check out the video to see the experience come to life.

Explore Grasslands National Park and experience the thrill of encountering rattlesnakes in their natural habitat.
