The Coho Shootout 2025 has come to a finish and all 4 Teams “La Cool Kids”. ”Strike Force”, “The Martians” and “Sunset Strivers” are all winners hailing from . Most all first timers fishing on the ocean, had the opportunity to reel in their biggest fish of their lifetime, plus the experience of catching 🦀🦐and 🐙. Not to mention a Humpback show. Surprisingly no one had to stay for detention and all were well behaved.

We released some 64K Harrison River White Chinooks that the Chillawack Hatchery supplied us with back in November. These fish can return as a Jimmy (1 yr old) , Jack (2 yr old) and mature Chinooks as 3,4 or 5 year olds. They won’t all return to us and decide to spawn in a different river system after spending time out in the ocean feeding.

It sure it fun running gear with no Flashers, either fishing with plugs or running Anchovies the fight is so much better without the drag of a Flasher. This was a 3 day Toba Inlet trip.

It’s the time of year Hatcheries around BC are releasing there smolts back into the river. These Coho Smelts are 1.5 years old and half way into their life span and we will see them return in 1.5 years. Next week we will be releasing some 40 000 Chinook Smelts back into the river. Without all the volunteers Hatcheries around BC would not exist, and our fisheries would not be as productive as they are. Chapman Creek Hatchery
