Did you know?
After Britain abolished the slave trade in the early 1800s, thousands of Africans rescued from slave ships were brought to Sierra Leone. These men, women, and children came from different ethnic groups across West Africa and had to rebuild their lives from scratch.
Their descendants became known as the Krio people, who played a major role in education, religion, trade, and politics across West Africa.
From captivity to community-building, their story is one of resilience and hope.
Have you ever heard of the Krio people before?
