We Tried to Fact-Check This…

As a kid, I was told Jacques Cousteau dove in Tobermory while filming on the Great Lakes and declared it the best freshwater diving in the world.

It seems likely he visited, but as an adult with Google, I can’t find a single quote or photo. Just blogs from others who “heard it too.”

But for advertising purposes? Yes, he both dove here and said that. Absolutely.

Because when you’re diving through 20+ historic shipwrecks in crystal-clear Georgian Bay water, the story feels real. It’s the kind of underwater adventure you’ll brag about for years. After all, you got to dive in the same waters as the most famous underwater explorer… (maybe.)

We’re Not Saying Panic, But…

Back in 1903, one of Flowerpot Island’s original sea stack trio disappeared into the water. And just like the third member of Destiny’s Child, it quietly slipped out of the spotlight (Michelle, we still love you 💔).

Now only two flowerpots remain, and geologists say there’s a 99.9% chance they’ll last for hundreds, maybe even thousands of years.

But you? You’ve got vacation days now. And that 0.1%? Yeah, I don't like it either.

Grotto Obligations 🥾🌊

If you live anywhere north of Wiarton, you’ve taken every out-of-town visitor to the Grotto. Aunt from Mississauga? Grotto. College friend from Halifax? Grotto. Your cousin who made you carry the other side of his Yeti “brewskie bucket”? Grotto (then politely never again). It’s basically a Northern Bruce County rite of passage.

And you don’t even complain about it. Because it still looks like you accidentally hiked into the Windows desktop background of someone trying to manifest a sabbatical.

It’s about a 30-minute hike from the parking lot, depending on how many snack breaks your group requires. Then suddenly limestone cliffs, aqua-blue water, and someone fake tripping for laughs. (Kevin, the bit’s expired. Stop it.)

A friend once asked if I ever get numb to Tobermory’s landmarks. The Grotto proves absolutely not.
Unless they were talking about all the Dodge Rams. Then yes. Fully numb.

Dorcas Bay Dreams is now open for July and August bookings! And just like that, your “hold a mug and stare at the water” plan has found its setting.

There’s an old Tobermory saying: “Canada Day at Harbour Way is a perfect stay.”
Okay, fine. We made that up. But it should be a thing.

This cozy 3-bedroom cottage is right in the heart of Tobermory, wedged lovingly between a local brewery and a fish and chip shop that knows its way around a deep fryer. There’s no need to drive. Just walk, snack, and repeat until Tuesday.

You’ll find the sunroom perfect for boat-watching, the deck ideal for Caesar sipping, and the bedrooms tranquil enough to cancel out your uncle’s deep dive into why tugboats beat pontoon boats in the Corinth Canal. (He’s surprisingly informed.)

Tub Life: A Tale of Two Harbours

Little Tub is the beating heart of Tobermory. Steps from live music, local food, and approximately a dozen flowerpot-themed fridge magnets that say something like “This Place Rocks!” Big Tub is the quieter, moodier sibling, perfect for kayaking, shipwreck spotting, and lighthouse admiring.

As a kid, I thought the names Little Tub and Big Tub meant warm bathwater. I’ve never fully recovered from that betrayal. Three failed cardboard boats later, I now know two things: the water stays cold, and naming your boat after a certain Olympic athlete neither guarantees speed or success. RIP Usain Boat I, II, and III.

But names aside, these twin Tubs are Tobermory’s crown jewels. You can kayak in the morning, grab whitefish and fries by noon, and walk from wilderness to waffle cone in 10 minutes flat.

We’ve got plenty of cottages right in the heart of it all. Book now before they’re gone faster than my future in marine engineering!

Dorcas Bay Dreams isn’t just a cottage, it’s the setting for your next great mood!

The ceilings are high. The windows are enormous. And the vibes? Equal parts introspective retreat, barefoot luxury, and “I should really buy a lemon zester.”

The aesthetic is fully Nancy Meyers/Diane Keaton coded: think sun-drenched countertops, open shelving, and a fridge that looks made to hold citrus, chilled rosé, and dairy products that require a translator. It’s the kind of space that makes you believe—however briefly—that you could cook something with saffron.
