Spring has arrived which makes it a good time to remind anyone who has printed photos whether loose, in albums, or in scrapbooks, that your photos should NOT be stored in your basement or attic. Spring storms can often bring an increased chance of flooding which leaves your photos at risk. Your photos should live where you live and not be exposed to hot and dry or cold and damp areas. It is also a good idea to have a digital copy of your photos. Scanning them will give you peace of mind knowing you have a backup copy. It has the added bonus that you will be able to view your photos on your devices and easily share them with family and friends. If you would like more information you can visit www.adventures-with-photos.ca or email [email protected] I would love to talk to you about your photos and how you can keep them safe.

Adventures-with-Photos is a Toronto based photo organizing business. We organize photos, scan photos, photo albums and scrapbook. We even scan Creative Memories albums. In addition, we ensure your photos are properly backed up and ready to share. We eve

Day Seventeen - What We Keep - 30-Day Challenge
Today's Photo: - Meeting Geddy Lee and the story be

It was quite by chance that I got to meet Geddy Lee in 2009. I was working at CIBC World Markets and each year they had an event called Miracle Day. It was the first Wednesday in December when the team from CIBC Capital Markets and the advisors from CIBC Wood Gundy Investment donated their fees and commissions to help kids in need. Each year they would invite a celebrity guest to come and be a part of the festivities.

Originally, the celebrity guest was supposed to be Lennox Lewis. However, he canceled or wasn’t able to make it at the last minute so they were in a bit of a scramble as to who they could call. It wasn’t long before they announced that Geddy Lee from Rush would be coming in later that day. I must admit that at the time I wasn’t either a Geddy Lee or Rush fan. I was actually quite disappointed that Lennox Lewis wasn’t coming. I’m definitely not a boxing fan, but had seen him on The Celebrity Apprentice and thought he would be very cool to meet. However, that was not meant to be.

It was just after lunch when someone came to let us know that Geddy was on the trading floor and if anyone would like to go down and meet him and have their picture taken, they could go now. At first, I wasn’t too excited to go until it hit me that I had a friend who would be over the moon at the opportunity to meet Geddy Lee and how much fun would it be for me to get my picture taken with his idol and send him the picture. So off I went. But what I wasn’t expecting was that Geddy was really nice. I came back upstairs thrilled that I had met him. I also immediately emailed my friend the picture. It was only minutes before I received a reply from him and one from his wife with the exact reaction I was hoping for, pure envy.

It was later that afternoon when one of my coworkers mentioned that Geddy would need to come back to our floor to get his coat. We both wondered if we might be able to get him to sign a couple of things. So, we printed out a couple of pictures and waited for him. When he finally arrived, he was more than agreeable to sign them.

I thought it was only fair to get an autographed picture for my friend who I had earlier taunted and one for his wife who had been equally as excited. To make it even sweeter, I told Geddy that my friend was such a big Rush fan that his license plate was SnowDog. Not only was Geddy impressed but acknowledged it when he signed the picture.

Sometimes you meet an idol or someone you admire and it’s such a disappointment because they aren’t who you wanted them to be. In my case, it was the opposite. I went with low expectations and was blown away by Geddy's kindness and generosity of his time. I must admit I have even listened to a few Rush tunes since then and have really enjoyed them.

Day Sixteen - What We Keep - 30-Day Challenge
Today's Photo: - Mad Me and the story behind it.

This is another one of my favourite B&W pictures of my mother and her two older sisters. It was likely taken the same day at the picture I have in the locket that I talked about on Day One of my 30 Day Challenge.

My mother entitled this picture "Mad Me". She couldn't remember exactly what had taken place that day but she was sure someone must have hurt her feelings. The photo was likely taken in 1929-1930 in New Brunswick.

Do you have any favourite black and white photos? What's the oldest one you have? Do you know the story behind the photo? Have you written the story down and shared it with a younger generation?

Day Fifteen - What We Keep - 30-Day Challenge
Today's Item: - Meeting the Voice on the Radio and the story behind it.

As a follow-up on my post from yesterday, I wanted to add a story about one of those full-circle moments in life which tied into the CFNB bumper sticker from my radio scrapbook.

CFNB was an AM radio station in Fredericton, N.B. One Sunday afternoon I turned on the radio and it happened to be on that station and for the first time, I heard a woman doing the news. She was very good, and after that, I listened to her often. I can still remember her sign off, I’m Anna Maria Tremonti with CFNB news, first with news in New Brunswick.

It was a couple of years later when I moved from New Brunswick and lost touch with where she had gone. Then one night many years later I was watching the national news on CBC when I heard them say, coming up after the break we have a report from Anna Maria Tremonti in the middle east. It was one of those moments that I wondered if I had heard correctly and if it was the same person, I use to hear on the radio back in the 70s. I didn’t know what she looked like, but I recognized her voice as soon as she started to speak. It was so nice to have a face to go with the voice.

Another decade passed before I heard she was hosting a national radio show called The Current. It was great to be able to listen to her again. During her final years at The Current, I saw she was hosting an event at the Appel Salon and thought it would be fun to see her in person.

So, on the evening of the event, I took my CFNB bumper sticker and wait until the end of the program. When she was done talking to everyone I went up and introduced myself. She was very nice and extremely surprised to see the sticker and said that took her back in time. We chatted briefly about the station. It was such a thrill that after 40 years of following her career I got to meet her in person.
