📢 Update on the 2025 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 🇨🇦
Family reunification remains a cornerstone of Canada’s immigration system, and the Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program continues to provide opportunities for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to bring their loved ones closer.
For 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will accept up to 10,000 complete sponsorship applications. However, no new interest to sponsor forms will be accepted. Instead, IRCC will invite randomly selected sponsors from the existing pool of submissions from 2020, continuing the approach taken in recent years.
🔹 A Look at the Numbers
📌 In 2020, IRCC received 209,174 interest to sponsor submissions, of which 203,213 were unique.
📌 After the 2024 intake, approximately 72,000 submissions remain in the pool.
📌 This year, IRCC will continue drawing from this existing pool.
🔹 Processing Times
⏳ 24 months for applications outside Quebec
⏳ 48 months for Quebec-destined applicants (due to provincial admission targets)
With the overall immigration targets being adjusted in the 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan, IRCC aims to balance application intake with available spots to minimize wait times.
For families who are unable to apply under the PGP Program, the Super Visa remains a great alternative! Parents and grandparents can visit for 5 years at a time, with multiple entries for up to 10 years. Recent improvements have made the Super Visa even more accessible, including changes to health insurance requirements.
📢 More details on the 2025 PGP Program intake, including invitation timelines, will be announced in the coming months. Stay tuned for updates!
