Well hellooooo there! πŸ¦₯

Just hanging out with my new friend in Roatan, Honduras.

We spent an epic week with extended family on our annual August family trip, cruising around the Caribbean. 🏝️

More photos to come, just waiting to get the teen stamp of approval on exactly which photos I am permitted to share!

Camping is a lot of work. Packing everything you need to survive in nature for days, then unpacking and setting up once you get there, and then repacking and taking everything down just a few days later - it's a LOT.

Not to mention where we camp is bear territory 🐻 so we always need to be extra careful not to do things that would attract them and disturb their way of life.

But to us, it's totally worth it.

The days are filled with connection, nature all around us, no screens, and great conversation!

Golden Ears Provincial Park campground is so deep into the forest that there is zero cell service whatsoever. 🚫 The plus is we all truly got to unplug. Even our teens enjoyed the break. The negative was that we almost ran out of gas on the way in with no way to communicate (thank goodness for friends who joined us and who were able to help!). The rest of the trip was glorious.✨

There is something about nature and camping that despite the work involved always makes us feel relaxed and recharged.πŸ”‹

Enjoying a quick getaway across the border. πŸ’• We try to take a trip just the 2 of us every year. Sometimes it's just 1 or 2 nights away, other times we've been fortunate enough to take week+ long trips overseas or roadtrips across the border, sans kids. Our kids are teens now, mostly having their own lives (doubtful they even realized we're gone πŸ˜‚) but regardless we feel these trips are so great for us as a couple to reconnect. Do you do getaways too?

We're never too old to fly kites πŸͺ

Over the years, we accumulated a few kites, mostly when the kids were small: Tinkerbell, Bumble Bee, a Stormtrooper, and an eagle. We're all much older now, but the kites still work and still bring us joy ❀️

If you haven't flown a kite in years we encourage you to try it out again. Paired with a picnic at sunset and you've got some magical family fun, no matter your age.✨

So this happened...πŸŽ“πŸ’•

From public school kid turned worldschooling youngster to globetrotting teen, and now a BC high-school diploma graduate. We are so incredibly proud. πŸ₯°

Looking back to when we first pulled her out of 'traditional' school, a lot of people questioned our decision. So much so that at times we even questioned ourselves. But we're so glad we stuck to our beliefs.Β

Because the path we chose allowed her the freedom to take the lead, to follow her own interests rather than what a system dictated, and ultimately helped her become who she truly is.❀️ Today, she is self-assured, open-minded, creative, smart, and genuinely a good person.

We're so proud and excited for her as she begins the next chapter of her life which will undoubtedly be filled with adventures!!! And since she now has a community of the best kind of friends we could hope for from all over the world, we know she will have many! πŸŒπŸ™ŒπŸ»

We couldn't believe there was still a lot of snow on the trail when we hiked Dog Mountain a few weeks ago. All the ski hills were dry, but nestled along this trail there was still snow (in May?!) and the icy parts were definitely an added challenge!

We hadn't come equipped as two of us only had our running shoes and they were not waterproof. I guess if we're planning to pursue this new found love for hiking we'll need to invest in some good hiking boots.

The view at the top made it all worth it. 🏞️

Now that we're back in Vancouver we're soaking in some gorgeous weather and enjoying an outdoorsy way of life. πŸ’š

It is nice to be home, and somehow this time, we've fallen really in love with our own city. πŸ₯°

Travel is amazing but we're realizing that being home can be just as fulfilling. The reverse culture shock I used to get every time we'd return is getting less.... thankfully. Iykyk.

We've become tourists in our own town, experiencing this place through an altered lens πŸ‘€, appreciating why people call Vancouver a world-class city. Having lush green nature surrounded by mountains, beaches and big city accessibility are, to us, the things that make Vancouver so beautiful.

Combine these with family, friends, fresh air and clean water, and life couldn't be more perfect these days.Β

Perhaps when the rain turns in the Fall we may be singing a different tune πŸ˜…. But until then we're getting outside, exploring all different types of hiking trails, and soaking in the sunshine.Β

We ❀️ Bangkok. We've been here several times but we don't seem to ever tire of it. I guess we're city people. On certain days. We had just enough time to hit our favourite food spots and do a bit of shopping before heading back across the ocean. No doubt we'll be back again. πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡

See you again, friends! 😘 Our month in Nepal has come to an end, but with friends like these, rather than say goodbye it's 'see you again' ❀️ And we know we will. It's simply a question of where and when. 🌎🧳

Road side lunch spot during our bus ride in Nepal.🚍

The drive between Kathmandu ↔️ Pokhara takes between 6 and 10 hours depending on traffic and road conditions that day. It's an extremely bumpy, twisty road, but tourist buses are decked out in large reclining sofa chairs and the view is incredible. 🀩 My teens mostly slept, but I really enjoyed watching the countryside landscape go by and seeing the local villages and way of life.Β

You could also fly between the 2 cities (a flight takes only 25 minutes) but the cost is significantly higher - roughly 900% higher - and flights are often delayed for hours and hours. Many in our group researched the safety records and apparently Buddha Air has the highest safety record of the local airlines.πŸ‘πŸ»
