The Perseids Meteor Shower, one of the most dazzling and reliable meteor showers of the year, is lighting up the skies now through September 1, with peak activity expected August 12–13. During these peak nights, you could see 50 to 75 meteors per hour streaking across the sky.
Whether you're traveling through Canada or the American Southwest, you're in for a treat. Both Moab, Utah and Jasper, Alberta are known for having some of the darkest skies in North America, offering exceptional viewing conditions. In our other destinations, simply head away from city lights to enjoy the celestial spectacle.
Stargazing tips to make the most of the night:
1. Dress for the night air: Bring layers, a cozy blanket, and a warm drink. Mountain and desert nights can get cool.
2. Let your eyes adjust: Avoid screens and bright lights for 20 to 30 minutes so your eyes can fully adapt to the dark.
3. Find open skies: Choose a spot with minimal light pollution and a clear view of the horizon.
4. Watch the weather: Make sure clouds won’t block your view.
Be sure to tag us in any photos you capture of the meteor shower while on your journey. We’d love to see your view under the stars.
