Yesterday we went to the Zarbiat Achbarou Cooperative for a visit and to learn more about the work this supported initiative is doing to support the local community and preserve cultural heritage. We learned about the project while having lunch and talking with the women who are gaining financial independence here as part of the community.

Santi and I loved our visit to Aït Benhaddou which is a famous film location for movies and series like Game of Thrones, Gladiator, The Mummy, and Prince of Persia.

We witnessed ancient earthen architecture, the dramatic desert-mountain backdrop, and preserved medieval ksar structures.

Yesterday we stopped in the village of Zaida where a family cooked for us, dressed us up in traditional wear, and created henna designs on our hands. If we didn’t travel with we would never have had an immersive experience into Moroccan culture like we have had so far on this trip.

Henna in 🇲🇦: Moroccan natural henna is an organic, plant-based powder made from the dried, finely ground leaves of the Lawsonia inermis shrub.
