Westbank Museum & Visitor Centre

Westbank Museum & Visitor Centre We are the Westbank Museum and West Kelowna Visitor Centre. Come learn about our community's history, or let us help you make your own! Admission is by donation.

Guided tours are available upon request. Kids! Come for our beaver and bear scavenger hunt. The Westbank Museum was established in 1978 by Clare and Billie Small to provide a repository for artifacts and documents of the settlement of the area. With these items, we generate historic and cultural programs and preserve the local settler heritage. Since its founding, the collection has grown to over

6000 artifacts and is continually expanding through donations. Our primary interest is in artifacts that are directly from and related to Westbank's heritage and pioneering families. These items have been generously donated by members of our community, pioneering families, and collectors. We consider all donations with respect to the item, its heritage, and the donor. Admission is by donation: $5 per person is the recommendation.

Wagon Road North by Art Downs was first published in 1960. In this new edition, edited and with a preface by Ken Mathers, the saga of the Cariboo Gold Rush is expanded upon to bring new life to the ambitions and hardships of the prospectors attempting to make their livelihoods from the Cariboo goldfields. Wagon Road North is full of not only stories and history of the 1860s, but also archival images and maps to best chronicle for the reader this important time in B.C. history.

Formative Friday:

Today in 1792 George Vancouver sailed north from Birch Bay as part of a four-and-a-half-year long expedition for the British Navy and came across the site that would later become a part of Metro Vancouver while exploring the Pacific Northwest.

Vancouver sailed into Burrard Inlet, the second European to do so, and charted various geography, including Point Grey, now a Vancouver city neighbourhood, Howe Sound, and Jervis Inlet over the course of four days.

Vancouver City would be incorporated as a municipality in 1886 and named in honour of George Vancouver.
