The countdown is on!

Another aurora season is almost here, and I’ll be back on the road with my tours from August 14.

If you’re planning to visit Yellowknife to chase the northern lights in September but haven’t been able to book with me, I highly recommend my good friend Raymond McDonald, an excellent aurora chaser and photographer who will be offering tours from September 5 to 19.

His tours are very similar to mine: private tours or small-group experiences, always well away from the crowds, with a strong focus on photography.

Raymond is the person I’ve chased the northern lights with more than anyone else. I’ve spent hundreds of nights out there with him, in the forests and beside the lakes, searching for clear skies and auroras. I know exactly how he works and how much experience he has. He’s someone I trust completely, and I recommend him without hesitation. You’ll find his website and booking information in the first comment.

See you under the lights. ✨

I’ve already stopped doing tours for the season, and in the last days I’ve mostly been doing one thing: sleeping a lot. 😊

The dark skies are almost gone now, and in a few days they’ll disappear for a while.

I will restart doing tours on August 14, and I’m already accepting bookings until December. The rest of the next season will open soon.

I always keep the groups small, so if you already know you want to be out there next season, it’s not too early to start planning. 💫

Last night (Friday, Apr 17) was incredible, and yet another reminder that April is the most underrated and unfairly overlooked month for auroras in Yellowknife. 🇨🇦

Clear skies, solar wind from a coronal hole, auroras arriving before nightfall, flowers spinning overhead, waterfalls of light, glowing curtains, the sky shifting like slow-motion plasticine, plenty of purples and pinks and all kinds of shades in between, plus shooting stars.✨

These photos were taken in different locations between 11 p.m. and after 3 a.m. I’m only sharing a few for now, I’ll post many more photos and videos later on Instagram.

And at 3 a.m., something funny happened: I was standing in total silence on the ice road when I started hearing a strange csek csek csek sound, getting more and more noticeable. I could not see well (it was all darker than it looks in the photos) but I could tell something was coming closer. I was confused. 👻

Then, at some point, I realized it was a guy skating alone on the ice road, under the auroras, at 3 in the morning (you can see him in the last photo below). I was genuinely surprised, especially by the hour and the location (the guy was almost in Dettah) so I started talking to him. He was an American traveler, amazed to be skating beneath those lights. Some people know exactly how to be alive. ✨
