Last night, Oct. 8-9. ✨ A full-on chase around the clouds, always moving, always looking for the next clear window, the next patch of stars, the next burst of magnetic light.

With amazing travellers from Ontario and Australia.

Fast, playful, unpredictable, full of emotion, and with that simple obsession at the centre of it all: chasing beauty. ✨

✨ AURORA ALERT ✨

We have a Coronal Mass Ejection heading our way, and it could hit Earth’s magnetic field within the next several hours, most likely sometime tonight into tomorrow.

That means we could have decent chances for strong aurora activity tonight, tomorrow night, and possibly over the following nights too, if the other pieces cooperate, especially the weather.

I’m hitting the road to chase the lights and still have 3 seats available tonight and 2 seats available tomorrow night, Friday.

Last night, Oct. 6-7, 10:25 pm - 01:12 am. ✨ Looking up & getting lost in the magnetic skies with an absolutely lovely crew from Texas who even ended up singing Nick Cave in the vehicle along the way. Hard to beat that combination. ✨

It’s 5 a.m. and I just got home after the toughest chase of the season so far. 💥

Hours of clouds, rain, fog, wrong turns. We kept pushing until we finally found the opening we’d been fighting for all night, two hours outside Yellowknife.

Last night, Oct. 2–3. ✨

A beautifully chaotic night: about 220 km on the road, slaloming around altocumulus clouds drifting in from the northwest and chasing whatever clear sky we could find. We got lucky and managed to stay under clear skies for most of the night simply because we kept moving.

Around 10 p.m., about an hour from Yellowknife, the first show kicked off: green, elastic-whip aurora snapping across the sky and opening into huge flower-like shapes that seemed to swallow us.

Between midnight and 2 a.m., the whole mood changed into this almost religious purple rain.

Then, between 2 and 3 a.m., the coronas started exploding.

All night, the sky looked like a cathedral painted in watercolour.

Worth every kilometre. Take the road. Find the real things. ✨
