"TWO NEWBORN GORILLAS OBSERVED IN ONE WEEK: A STRONG SIGN OF HOPE
We are delighted to share extraordinary news from Virunga National Park: two mountain gorilla births have been observed within just one week. These rare and joyful moments strongly remind us that conservation works and truly makes a difference for one of the world’s most endangered species.
In the Rugendo family, the female Mugisha - whose name means “luck” in a local dialect - was observed gently cradling her newborn female infant. Both mother and baby were seen to be in good health, bringing the Rugendo family’s total number of members to 19. The first months of life are a vulnerable period for mountain gorillas, making each successful birth especially significant for the long-term survival of the species."
