Not many marathons begin in one of the most biodiverse rainforests on Earth.

The Odzala Marathon returns on 3 October 2026, offering runners a rare chance to take on the challenge in the heart of Odzala-Kokoua National Park. An interesting fact: the route passes through landscapes where forest elephants, primates and countless bird species also move — making this as much an immersion in nature as an endurance event.

Choose from 10 km, 21 km or 42 km distances.

Sometimes the camera traps capture more than movement — they capture personality.

In this footage, a curious hyena comes in for a closer look, investigating the camera with the alertness and intelligence these animals are known for. Often misunderstood, hyenas are highly social, adaptable and important to the health of ecosystems as both hunters and scavengers.

In Odzala-Kokoua National Park, moments like this are a reminder that the rainforest is full of surprises — and that even its most elusive residents are always watching back.

Sandrine Ekanda is one of Kamba’s dedicated spa therapists at Mboko Camp.

Originally from Mbomo in the Republic of the Congo, Sandrine joined the Kamba team in July 2022. Drawn to the hospitality industry for its opportunities and inspired by the surrounding wildlife, she has grown into her role by learning new skills and refining her craft.

Sandrine approaches each treatment with a simple goal: that every guest leaves feeling more relaxed and happier than when they arrived. Her favourite treatment to give is an oil massage — a calming, restorative experience that reflects the slower rhythm of the rainforest.

For Sandrine, the most rewarding moments come when guests leave the spa feeling truly transformed.

Caught on camera: the forest’s fastest group chat.

This camera trap footage shows chimpanzees striding through the rainforest with clear purpose — as if they know exactly where they’re going and everyone else needs to keep up. Energetic, social and endlessly entertaining, chimps bring personality to every glimpse.

On Arbor Day, we celebrate the trees that sustain life in the rainforest.

In Odzala-Kokoua National Park, towering trees form the canopy, regulate climate, store carbon, and provide habitat for countless species — from insects to primates.

On a Kamba journey, you experience this forest from the ground up, moving beneath a living system that has evolved over millennia.

Earth Day is not just about what we protect — but how we choose to experience it.

In Odzala-Kokoua National Park, one of Africa’s oldest rainforests continues to function as it should — storing carbon, sustaining biodiversity, and supporting life in ways that are often invisible.

On a Kamba journey, you don’t just see this forest. You move through it slowly, observe it closely, and begin to understand what it means for an ecosystem to remain intact.

Because protecting the planet starts with understanding it.

Tracking in the rainforest is not luck — it’s knowledge.

A bent stem, a distant call, a subtle shift in movement — each sign tells a story. Guides and trackers read the forest in ways most of us never learn, piecing together clues that lead to extraordinary encounters.

On a Kamba journey, what you see is only part of the experience — understanding how you got there is what makes it truly meaningful.

On a Kamba journey, getting from one place to another is part of the experience.

Moving between camps means shifting pace and perspective — from forest paths to river crossings, from vehicle to kayak to walking into camp. Each transition reveals something new, and the journey itself becomes as memorable as the destination.

In Odzala-Kokoua National Park, travel isn’t just about where you’re going — it’s about everything you encounter along the way.

In Odzala-Kokoua National Park, not everything that matters stands tall.

From delicate bonnet-like mushrooms emerging overnight to layered bracket fungi slowly working through fallen wood, these forms are part of the rainforest’s essential decomposer network — quietly breaking down organic matter and returning nutrients to the soil.

They are fleeting, often overlooked, and absolutely vital.

On a Kamba journey, it’s often these small, intricate systems that reveal the true complexity of the forest — a reminder that every layer, no matter how subtle, plays its part.

Sunset in Odzala-Kokoua National Park doesn’t arrive all at once — it softens the forest. Light filters through the canopy, the air cools, and the sounds begin to shift.

Along the rivers and at the bais, the last light settles quietly over the landscape — silhouettes, reflections, and a stillness that feels almost suspended in time.

On a Kamba journey, sunset isn’t a spectacle. It’s a transition — from day into night, from movement into listening, as the forest prepares to change once again.
