Japa and seeking Aduro (asylum).

Aduro is among the most marketed yet abused Japa option. There are valid grounds for seeking Aduro and if you fit the bill, go for it. However, Aduro should be your last resort or option not your first option when you Japa.

Let me tell you why?

1. It is a one-way ticket: The truth no one tells you is once you file for Aduro, the only way you get your papers is through it. No other way out. While you have the option to withdraw in some countries before it enters processing stage, in many other countries, once you are in, you are in. If your aduro claim is rejected, then deportation is inevitable if your appeal fails at the Tribunal level.

2. Court/Immigration limbo: With Aduro, you will always be at the mercy of the Immigration court system and Immigration at large. They literally hold your stay in the country in their hands. So while you "eye" Aduro, be prepared for court and Immigration ping-pong. Sometimes, the process is hassle-free. In many other cases, it has K-leg.

3. Give and Take: The carrot for Aduro is the work visa you obtain while your case is being processed. However, the validity of your work visa is contingent on how successful your case is. If your Aduro claim is rejected, your work entitlement goes with it. Also, a number of employers are very skeptical of employing Aduro work holders in a number of Top A countries especially for office roles. You are however more likely to get hands-on role. There are however exceptions.

4. Travel restriction: When you file Aduro, be prepared to wave goodbye to your home country for a very looooong time. If the reason you filed for Aduro is tied to your safety back in your home country, you've no legal grounds to journey back there if your claim is approved and you are granted status. This is essentially the kernel of Aduro.

5. Lawyer on retainer: as long as your case is being considered, after God, your next closest ally will be your Lawyer.

Aduro exists for a reason. It is a first resort for those that genuinely need it. Otherwise, it is a last resort or at best no resort. There are other options you should genuinely consider before contemplating Aduro.

Many will not tell you but there are thousands stranded abroad spread across Canada, Japan, Europe, and other Top A countries waiting for their Aduro to click. Until then, they wait, heart pounding in their chest, prayer in their mouth, lawyer on speed dial, praying for one thing, "a miracle"

Japa is not the same.

In Asia, you will hustle, make some money, secure scholarships in some countries like Japan, China and South Korea or affordable tuition fees but no PR for you. Only work visa that is renewed one year at a time.

In Top A countries like Canada, America, UK, Australia and New Zealand, if you can "survive" the rough beginnings, and eventually secure PR, if you are strategic, you will never be the same again. These countries are Japa strategic pillars.

In Gulf countries, you will easily Japa, get work visa based on employer sponsorship but you will mostly be limited to menial, low paying jobs except you are highly skilled. If you give them 10 years of your life, all you will get is tax exemption but never PR. These countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman are flashy to first time travellers but they can easily trap you in Japa hamsters wheel.

Caribbean countries you will love the waters and the touristic appeal but it at best the extension of Africa, only that it is closer to many Japa destinations. It you get their passport good for you, as you go to many countries visa free but living and working there holds less promise except you are into business. Say hello to Jamaica, St Kitts and Lucia, Barbados and the likes but don't linger for too long.

Japa is not the same. In a bid to travel don't venture out anywhere for Japa sake. If you do, ensure you are committed to your re-Japa plans.

If you are 40 plus and seek to Japa for PR, choose New Zealand 🇳🇿.

Many countries including Canada, Australia and the UK have some set rules in place that caps opportunities for people above certain age from securing PR. For instance, Australia limit study and post study opportunities for people aged 35 and above except you are going for certain PG research courses. The UK also has similar rules in place. It makes those that are 35 and above feel ostracized from the commonwealth of opportunities.

In Canada, once you peak age 39, chances of maxing your scores for Express Entry is greatly diminished except Provincial Nomination intervenes. However, this is not the case in New Zealand.

Here the opportunities open to people aged 35 and above. Including 40 plus in New Zealand.

1. You can study for PGD, Msc and PhD. You can bring your family. Your dependants will also secure visas including work visas for your spouse. Kids also school for free (work visa).

2. 40 plus are eligible for Skilled Migrant Residence Visa. Age is NOT a factor. Visa is approved typically within six months. SMC Residence Visa is one of the most simplified visa in the Western world as it is based on a six point system.

3. 40 plus are eligible for Straight to Residence. If your occupation is on the Tier 1 Green List, you are eligible to apply for Residence. You mainly need a job offer.

4. 40 plus are eligible for Work to Residence. If your occupation is on the Tier 2 Green List, you are eligible for Residence if you secure a job offer.

5. 40 plus can work in the Seasonal Employer Work Visa stream. Valid visitor visa holders are eligible to apply.

6. New Zealand welcomes anyone aged 18-55 to apply for their Residence pathway. If you under 55, let nothing stop you.

7. 40 plus are also eligible to Straight to Residence available for Teachers.

Age is not just a number, it is a blessing and New Zealand is one country that welcomes you with open arms.

If You’re New outside an advancecountry better than your country, Converting Prices To Your Local Currency Is Normal | Yes, Here's Why!

If you’re new in the Uk or any advance country, you’ll notice something about yourself.
Every price you see, you convert it to your local currency before spending.

Nigerians convert to naira.
Indians convert, Pakistanis do the same.
Even Americans convert.

You do it steadily.
Even when you tell yourself to stop, you find it hard.

And then comes the problem.

People mock you for it.
Influencers talk down on the behaviour.
Older stayers laugh and call you JJC.

But listen carefully:

You are not doing anything wrong.
In fact, you’re doing the right thing.

You’re using what you already know to learn what you need to know.
You’re using your understanding of your local currency to learn the pound.

That’s how financial discipline starts.

If you don’t understand the value of the money you’re holding, you won’t appreciate it.
And if you don’t appreciate it, you’ll waste it.

The pound is stronger than your local currency.

If you don’t convert and understand the equivalent value, it's problem.
You’ll misuse your money without realising it.

Here’s another truth people won’t tell you:

Even people born in the UK do the same thing.
They calculate. They compare.

They cross-check every penny against what they’re used to earning and spending.

You’re doing exactly that - just with a different reference point.
And it doesn’t stop there.

Before you buy anything, your mind also checks:

👉 how many hours you worked
👉 how much effort it took
👉 what that money truly represents

That’s not weakness.
That’s wisdom.

It’s a sign you’re learning.

A sign you’re adapting.
A sign you’re becoming a responsible spender.

So if this is happening to you, relax.

It’s not abnormal.
It’s natural.

And it’s one of the smartest ways to understand a new currency and manage your expenses properly.

1️⃣ Language is key – French is the main language, so learning a few basic phrases will make life easier. Simple words like Bonjour (Hello) and Merci (Thank you) go a long way.

2️⃣ Local food is affordable & tasty – Try dishes like Attiéké (cassava couscous) and Alloco (fried plantains). Eating local saves money and helps you connect with the culture.

3️⃣ Transportation – Taxis are everywhere, but agree on the price before you enter. For cheaper movement, try shared taxis (Woro-Woro) or their public government bus.

4️⃣ Stay connected – Get a local SIM card (like Orange, MTN, or Moov) for internet and calls. It’s cheap and reliable. It's fast and wirks instantly.

5️⃣ Safety & adaptation – Like any new place, be aware of your surroundings, keep copies of your ID, and make local friends who can guide you.
