Te Aito Cook Islands This pages celebrates the individual V1 paddler, recognising the skill and training that goes into getting that one paddler across the finish line

Te Aito is the Pacific’s supreme event for individual V1 rudderless outrigger canoe racing. In the world of outrigger canoeing Te Aito is recognised as the sports true test of individual skill, strength and character. Established in 2010, Te Aito Cook Islands (TACI), the premier V1 rudderless oe vaka race for the Cook Islands brings paddlers from across the Cook Islands, Tahiti, New Zealand and Au

stralia to challenge themselves against our tough open-water conditions. For the women it’s a 14km circuit of the iconic northern coastline of Rarotonga. For the men, it’s two laps of the same circuit, a gruelling 28km course in all. Every two years, the unforgettable paddling experience, held usually in May, will be a great opportunity to showcase the high level of paddling and competition we have here in the Cook Islands. Simultaneously, TACI will serve as a platform to promote Rarotonga and the Cook Islands as the premier destination and tourist attraction for extreme water sports, boosting the thrill factor of paddling in our open ocean, experiencing our unique culture and all that our islands have to offer.
