Are you ready to visit Europe in South America for FREE? 💸
If you are a history buff, Santiago's downtown will leave you smiling from ear to ear 😁 The European influence here is palpable and probably the main reason why Santiago is the cultural and historic center of Chile.
For ZERO dollars, you get to step back in time and discover these 5 amazing spots:
Plaza de Armas ~ palm-tree lined square with plenty of places for sitting and people watching surronded by architectural landmarks.
La Moneda Palace ~ the White House of Chile. You can take a guided tour from Mon-Fri (book in advance at the gov site). Outside of the palace, the change of guards ceremony happens every other day at 10 am.
Santa Lucia Hill ~ originally a lookout, this is Santiago's birthplace. Now, an extensive public park where you climb elegant stairs to the top of the hill to enjoy panoramic views of the city.
Old Stock Exchange ~ located in the La Alameda district this 1800's building takes up almost the entire block. To go inside, you have to leave your passport at the entrance.
National Museum of History ~ museum in a 19th century royal palace featuring Chilean historical and cultural exhibits. This one is open from Tuesday through Sunday.
PS: Plan to spend at least 1/2 a day in this area. A free walking tour is also a great idea!
