Report! “Cloud Elephants” spotted over Dali!

Experts say wild elephants in China only roam in specific parts of Yunnan. But hold on… 👀 I just spotted a whole herd of “elephants” right on top of Dali’s Cangshan Mountain!

They were strolling between the blue sky and green waters, totally carefree. The vibes? Absolutely healing. ☁️💓

August 12th is World Elephant Day. Protecting them means protecting our shared home. 🌍

May humans and nature always vibe together in harmony, just like these clouds and the sea. 🐘✨

🇺🇸🇨🇳Wearing Bai ethnic costumes and dancing the Bawangbian? These American students are having a blast in Dali!

Elite students from Stanford and Georgetown trading their textbooks for traditional Bai attire, dancing the “Bawangbian” whip dance in the villages of Dali. What a scene! 💃

From July 30 to August 8, 11 American students “dived” deep into Eryuan, Dali. They didn’t just act like tourists—they lived like locals! From browsing lively local markets to trying the “Jiama” woodblock printing and exploring traditional Bai architecture, they experienced it all.

This wasn’t your typical boring field trip. It was an immersive “village adventure” where they unlocked new dance moves and witnessed the “new look” of rural China firsthand.

Now *this* is what true cultural exchange looks like! 🌏✨

✨ Mini Shengdou: Bringing Good Fortune Home

If the giant Shengdou(grain measures) carries the collective wishes of the whole village, the mini Shengdou is a festive must-have for every household. 🏠

At the pre-festival markets, families pick their favorite charms to top their small handheld torches.

Wandering the streets, children wave these mini torches with pride, adding a touch of pure childhood joy to the celebration.

🌳✨ Blessings in the Air!

What makes the Bai Torch Festival so special? It’s the giant main torch, standing over 10 meters tall!

Adorned with colorful flags, fruits, and “ ” (grain measures), it symbolizes a bountiful harvest. The *Shengdou* is a traditional tool for measuring grain, representing abundance. Its three-tier structure signifies “rising step by step” in life. 📈

As night falls and the torch burns, the climax begins: “Snatching the Shengdou”! When the wood softens and the charm sways, the tension peaks. Villagers wait eagerly, eyes locked on the prize. When it falls, the scramble begins! 🔥

The rule? The winner crafts a new, bigger one next year, passing the luck on.

It’s not just a contest; it’s a passionate wish for a better life. Don’t miss this spectacular fight for fortune! 🏆

Why light the torch? 🔥

The Torch Festival originates from ancient legends of warding off disaster and praying for a bountiful harvest.

It symbolizes driving away evil and welcoming good fortune. As the torches are lit, so are people’s hopes for a beautiful life.

This is a time-honored tradition shared by the Yi, Bai, Naxi, Jino, and Lahu ethnic groups, rich in cultural heritage. While the celebration dates may vary among different groups, one thing remains the same: this is a beautiful tradition you wouldn’t want to miss. ✨
