In April 2025, Air Niugini, the national airline of Papua New Guinea, launched UnionPay online acceptance, enabling UnionPay Cardholders to book and pay for tickets directly using UnionPay’s digital payment solution. This collaboration further strengthens UnionPay's presence in airline acceptance across the South Pacific region.
UnionPay was previously accepted at Air Niugini’s offline ticketing offices. With this new collaboration, UnionPay cardholders can now book flights and make payments directly through the airline’s official website and app. By selecting UnionPay at checkout, customers enjoy a fast, convenient, and secure payment experience.

Monoprix, one of France’s most recognized retail chains, has expanded its partnership with UnionPay International to accept both UnionPay cards and UnionPay QR Code payments across all directly-owned Monoprix, Monop’, and Naturalia stores throughout the country. This marks a new step in enhancing the shopping experience for international visitors, particularly Chinese and other Asian tourists familiar with mobile-first payment methods.

With this launch, UnionPay cardholders can now choose between traditional card payments or QR code scanning through the UnionPay App. As the world’s leading card scheme, UnionPay connects Monoprix to a high-potential base of international shoppers, particularly from Asia. This collaboration strengthens Monoprix’s commitment to accepting international payment methods and delivering a seamless experience for global customers. The deployment of UnionPay applies exclusively to directly-owned stores and does not include franchise locations.

The 137th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) starts in Guangzhou on April 15, 2025, covering 1.55 million square meters with over 30,000 global exhibitors and nearly 170,000 pre-registered overseas buyers.

At the Canton Fair, UnionPay offers comprehensive payment services, ensuring convenience and safety for all attendees. Information desks and “International Visitor Payment Service Desks” will provide payment support throughout the venue. Foreign visitors can enjoy fee-free transactions when using their locally issued UnionPay cards bound to Alipay and WeChat.

Besides, UnionPay collaborates with acquiring institutions to efficiently handle the acceptance arrangements for nearly 200 merchants at the fair, catering to various payment needs of attendees.

For a seamless payment experience, UnionPay cards from 83 countries and regions and UnionPay-powered e-wallets from 37 countries and regions are widely accepted in China.

We are honored to announce our partnership with National ITMX Co., Ltd (NITMX) to jointly promote the integration of UnionPay payment information with Thailand’s PromptPay. In the first phase, this collaboration will offer QR code payment for Chinese tourists, enhancing the digital payment experience for Chinese visitors to Thailand. In the next phase, Thai tourists will be able to scan UnionPay QR codes in China. Details of the launch dates of both phases will be announced in due course.
Through this partnership, the usage of UnionPay App (YunShanFu) mobile payment in Thailand will expand countrywide across popular travel destinations, including Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. UnionPay App users can use the YunShanFu app to scan the PromptPay QR code to pay as in China and vice versa. NITMX is also working with other Chinese partners aiming to serve users in both countries.

We are thrilled to annouce a strategic agreement with Etihad Payments (AEP), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE), which operates the UAE’s national card switch (UAESWITCH) and manages domestic card scheme “Jaywan”, to launch co-badge “UnionPay – Jaywan” cards in the UAE market. The signing ceremony took place at UnionPay International’s headquarters in Shanghai, with H.E. Saif Al Dhaheri, the CBUAE’s Assistant Governor for Banking Operations and Support Services, Chairman of AEP, and Mr. Larry Wang, CEO of UPI, officially endorsing the partnership.

This collaboration marks a transformative milestone in the UAE’s evolving payment’s landscape, enabling the issuance of co-badge cards featuring both the Jaywan and UnionPay logos. Under this agreement, the co-badge cards will operate on Jaywan’s domestic payment network within the UAE, ensuring seamless local transactions. Internationally, the cardholders will benefit from the extensive UnionPay network, enabling effortless transactions across more than 180 countries and regions.
