We love us a waste-management tour! Most folks seek out coastlines and cocktails for their tropical escapades: JK got her kicks in Cartagena checking out the incredible work of the Green Apple Foundation — one of the beneficiaries of TCTF’s Community Impact Fund (honoured to be in 2025’s Philanthropy Committee!). Always love seeing visionary hoteliers such as as Blue Apple’s Portia thinking outside of the box (and bottle) when it comes to recycling, it was so satisfying seeing their little solar-powered rickshaw darting around and seeing Albert work his recycling magic in the Colombian city and on island converting beer bottles into precious sand perfect for manifold uses from construction to water filtration…

More than a quarter of this biodiverse Central American country is protected as national parks, almost all its electricity is renewable, tourism revenue directly supports conservation: and goodness knows we need the world’s money going into protecting and regenerating nature — as the luxury travel industry becomes all about assets, we need to prize our ecosystems as our greatest investment for all…

This World Female Ranger Day we’re reflecting on how only about 11% of the world’s rangers are women according to International Ranger Federation — and reminding all a call for greater gender equality in conservation not because it’s a nice thing to think about when it comes to inclusion, but how upping equity is better for everyone.

It was super inspiring from hearing from the Black Mambas at Women in Travel’s last week — thank you for highlighting how it’s especially helpful to employ more women in ranger roles and challenge traditional gender roles, to offer much-needed livelihoods and leadership opportunities to women in rural or marginalised communities.

Thanks to everyone who platforms reasons to support female anti-poaching units, role-modelling their success in tackling human-wildlife conflict without weapons — but who raises awareness around the need to fly the flag for more gender equality across the travel industry…
