The Caribbean coast of Colombia is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world. You can easily spend days driving and hiking around the region while enjoying some of the greenest parts of the world.

Also situated along this coast are historic towns like Cartagena and Santa Marta. Just be mindful of the toll roads while driving as the rates are just out of this world. @ Tayrona National Natural Park

When we posted a shorter video about the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, we received tons of questions about the place. Where? How? What?!

In this longer video, we cover everything from how to reach there, what to do and what to prepare.

Given the emphasis now on social isolation, this post is about how we inadvertently almost ended up isolating ourselves high up in the Andes mountains.

We went in search of the Salar de Tara from San Pedro de Atacama on Ruta 27. This road has a 40 km linear ascent leading up to the Bolivian border, before finally entering Argentina.

We were miles from any other humans and as the sun descended, our car got stuck in the shifting sands. With great effort, we escaped and gradually made down that long descent, all the while trying to avoid brake failure.

Despite this harrowing drive back, we highly recommend going up that road as you'll experience deep isolation and come across a landscape few places can rival.

Visiting the Amazon rainforest in Bolivia was the most memorable experience of this trip. This rainforest covers 9 countries of which Bolivia offers one of the least touristy (and inexpensive) experiences.

A word of warning before attempting this - there is no Internet or electricity, no emergency medical care within a 4-hour radius, and there is the ever-present danger of a bite or sting from one of the many dangerous creatures here.

To get to this lodge, you have to fly or drive into the town of Rurrenabaque, from where you commence a 3-hour boat ride down the Amazon river. From the disembarkation point, you have to trek for another 30 minutes to reach your cabin.

As you'd expect, the amenities are basic and you are basically isolated from the forest by a thin strip of mosquito netting. To add to the adventure, we visited right after the military coup and were the only tourists there. When night falls and you blow out the last candle, the symphony of the rainforest reaches a crescendo which lasts till sunrise.

Despite all the dangers, our guide ensured that we saw the forest up-close without getting into any trouble. The persistant thought we had throughout this was that if we stayed any longer, we would not want to return to civilization for a long time.

In this world tour, only two places have left us completely breathless at first sight. The first is Lençóis Maranhenses and the second is the city of La Paz. The latter did this both literally and figuratively.

At 3,600m, this is the highest capital city in the world. Even a short walk uphill will leave you gasping for air. Also, this is the most spectacular city in the world in our view. The city lies in a cauldron shaped valley and you have a full view of it from most points in the city.

It also has one of the best public transport systems in the world. The Teleferico (cablecar) system is inexpensive, efficient, well-connected and offers a spectacular view of the city as you ride along.

Needless to say, you must acclimatize to a high altitude before even landing here to avoid altitude sickness. We recommend visiting this right after visiting Machu Picchu.

One life, seven wonders.

We inadvertently ended up seeing all 7 new wonders recently. While we are aware that not everyone can claim to have this one ticked off their bucket list, our opinion about this list stays the same - it's hyped up and probably not worth pursuing.

The wonders on this list are impressive no doubt, but they are not the only ones deserving the top 7 spot. Moreover, the list is private, unsupported by UNESCO and deeply manipulated.

For a list of alternative wonders of the world, check out our bio link.

Ever since we met in 2012, we have been checking-off destination after destination from our travel bucket list. We have exceeded our travel ambitions and we can't think of a more fitting way to end this decade that the 7-month-journey-across-the-world trip we are on right now.

We need to aim bigger for the next decade and would love to tick off

1. a transcontinental road trip across Europe and Central Asia

2. visiting 80% to 90% of all nations

3. a Hail Mary blast into space on Virgin Galactic

4. spending 25% of our time traveling

5. many more trips with our friends across the world

Traveling to 10-12 countries a year while having a full-time job requires three things - a willing partner, an employer which supports holidays and remote working and above all, a port for quick exit and entry. For this, we have to thank the simply mind-blowing amazing city of Singapore. The city as it stands today has no peers and we would love to return to this paradise someday soon.

We wish you all a Happy New Year and lots of travels in 2020!
[Technically the new decade starts in 2021 but dates are arbitrary and for most people, it seems like 2020 is the start of a new decade. So be it.] @ Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo

Lima in Peru can often be overlooked as a travel destination, but the city is a vibrant, populous megapolis that deserves your attention.

You'll find a lot of interesting architecture, a lively coastal life, plenty of murals and a vibrant street food culture. When you come down to Machu Picchu, maybe spend a few days in Lima as well.

The holiday season is upon us and drones are certainly going to be a popular gift. Sure, most countries are removing their bans and manufacturers are now releasing drones below 250g, the weight limit below which registration is not required in many countries.

But before you buy one, think again. Even though you'll be able to bring a drone into many countries, you will still be banned from flying at most key locations. If you cannot fly your drone over the main attractions of your destinations, where will you fly them instead?

The last haven for most drones is far off isolated places and if you are visiting these kinds of locations, a drone makes sense. Otherwise, you are better off buying something else.

Locations in order - Cusco, Salar de Uyuni, Santiago, Valle de la Luna (Chile) and Sol de Mañana.

Machu Picchu is the 6th of the '7 new man-made wonders of the world' that we have seen. Of all these wonders, this is perhaps the one that requires you to travel the furthest.

You will preferably land in the town of Cusco, take a train to the town of Aguas Calientes and then take a bus up to the entrance. It is an expensive trip when you factor in all these. You can price-hack your way through this journey and there are many articles on the Internet about it.

Here are a few recommendations:

- Book your entrance ticket as early as possible as the number of entries per day is limited

- The same goes for the train ticket. You can buy the bus ticket at Aguas Calientes a day before departure.

- Come prepared if you are planning to do the difficult Montana hike. It is a steep hike and also very narrow at some points. The view from the top is pretty good but not too different from what you see at the actual site.

- It is best to acclimatize in the town of Cusco for a couple of days before visiting the site to avoid altitude sickness.

We did not do the Inca Trail but we know people who did. Apparently, it is an arduous trek but one which feels very rewarding. As for the site itself, it is definitely in our top 3 of all time along with Angkor Wat and the Taj Mahal.

Onwards to Chichen Itza in a few days to complete the list!
