Traditional dishes like casados, chorreadas, arroz con camarones y pollo, flan de coco, and guarapo were recognized for showcasing the authentic flavors and everyday food culture of Costa Rica.

Casado, one of the dishes featured in the ranking, is often considered Costa Rica’s most recognizable lunch plate. For most Boyero Travel guests, Puntarenas is not the final destination — it’s the gateway to the Nicoya Peninsula and the place where the adventure continues by ferry. ⛴

While travelers often pass through on the way to destinations like Montezuma, Santa Teresa, or Tambor, Puntarenas has its own unique history and charm along Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.

One of the city’s most recognizable landmarks is the historic Puntarenas lighthouse, located near the Paseo de los Turistas. The lighthouse has long symbolized the city’s connection to the sea and its importance as a port town for travelers, fishermen, and trade along the Pacific. Today, it remains a favorite photo stop and a reminder of Puntarenas’ maritime history.

If you take the ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya, don’t forget to pause for a moment and enjoy the ocean breeze, coastal views, and the feeling that you’re truly heading somewhere special.

Have you ever taken the Puntarenas ferry?

If you’re dreaming of a getaway that’s a little quieter, more affordable, and wrapped in green—june is the perfect time to discover Costa Rica. The "green season" brings afternoon rains that refresh the landscape and transform forests into vibrant, living ecosystems.

Fewer crowds mean more intimate adventures: walk empty beaches, soak in hot springs, and listen to the music of birds and monkeys all around you. Whether you're coming to explore or considering a long-term stay, June shows Costa Rica at its most authentic and alive. Morning hours are almost always sunny—perfect for excursions!

Insider tip: June is also the best time to start planning 2026 getaways for peak dates!

Have questions about travel or relocation in the green season? Reach out —we’re happy to help!

On World Migratory Bird Day, even the departures area at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) becomes a celebration of Costa Rica’s incredible birdlife.

The colorful “Paradise of Birds” installation welcomes travelers with a final reminder of the biodiversity, beauty, and pura vida spirit that make Costa Rica so special. From hummingbirds and toucans to scarlet macaws and migratory species that travel thousands of miles each year, Costa Rica plays an important role in protecting habitats for birds from around the world.

As travelers head home, these vibrant birds are a beautiful symbol that nature is part of the Costa Rica experience from beginning to end.

Today marks a historic moment for Costa Rica with the inauguration of Laura Fernández as the 50th president — becoming the second woman to lead the Republic.

Costa Rica has experienced a peaceful transition of power every four years since 1949, right after becoming the first country in the world to constitutionally prohibit a permanent army.

This new chapter is doubly special because Fernández was sworn in by Yara Jiménez, president of the Legislative Assembly (Congress), and now leads one of the few majority-female legislative assemblies in the world, placing Costa Rica among a small group of nations reaching this milestone in representation.

As a proud family-owned tour agency in Costa Rica, Boyero Travel celebrates the democracy, peace, people, culture, biodiversity, and spirit that make this country so special. We remain committed to sharing the pura vida experience that travelers from around the world come here to discover.

Here’s to Costa Rica’s future and the enduring spirit of pura vida.

The language question of the day for our Spanish-speaking followers: during this administration, should the term be presidente or presidenta? 🇨🇷

Sometimes the best wildlife moments are hiding high in the rainforest canopy… and with the right guide, you don’t miss them. 🦥

This beautiful photo was taken by one of our clients through a spotting scope during a guided nature walk in Costa Rica.

One of the biggest advantages of exploring with a naturalist guide is having trained eyes that can spot wildlife you might otherwise walk right past, from sloths tucked into the treetops to colorful birds, frogs, and monkeys hidden deep in the jungle. Guides also help position scopes and phones so guests can capture amazing photos like this one to take home as memories. 🇨🇷
